thanks rupert, i went to your place before to collect submerge riccia. didn't know there's a chiller in your living room tank, very quiet. what brand is that?
Choosing is quite difficult, I suggest that you try and visit some AQ Members tanks setups and see the chillers in operation to confirm your configuration needs. I am using two types one in my living room inside a cabinet and one in the laundry area in an open position.

Sourcing around and find a filter with 2400L flowrate at NA with reasonable price.
Can someone advise me is there any issue in having a filter with very high flowrate??
Typically a filter which is able to do a 3x turnover rate would be fine for a planted tank. In your case, it would be able to do about 5x. Just make sure the outflow is directed or dissipated nicely so that the water flow would not uproot any plants,mosses or disturb the substrate and the fishes. Btw, is your filter the gigantic Atman filter?. Let us know how u find it. Best of luck!
been a while since i last update this journal. now i'm still wondering what type of substrate should i go for. ADA is the best i had used so far but it always cannot achieve the crystal clear effect tends to have small particles in the water if you look closely.
Anyone can advise me on this? need something that gives me crystal clear water and at the same time promote good growth
Go for Gex soil. similar growth promoting properties as ADA, slightly cheaper and without cloudy water problems
If you have small particles in the water, it is either issues with your filtration system/method or probably due to some other reasons like corydoras digging up dirt.Originally Posted by soulfinder78

i've seen it at Y618 and biotope...
What ever top soil you are using, I will suggest a good non-anaerobic base fertilizer.
This is unless you want to constant supplement the water column with fertilisers to make up for the insufficient nutrients from the substrate.
Since you stay at Yishun, pop by Biotope to look at their 6 week old tank. And you will understand the need for good fertile substrate, with only Brighty K as nutrient supplement.

this is my new arrangement of the bogwood. both soaked in water for 2 weeks and finally sink.
hopefully after a few weeks later when i add water they won't float again.

erhmm im not 100% sure but looking at your bogwood, i suggest you keep it soaked till you setup and fill up the tank
from the looks of it if you let it dry out for awhile, it will float again....
Any idea what type of scaping you are looking at?
This is a front and back tank right? Maybe can consider a "triangular" scape?
yup i'm doing a triangular scape. the right side will be filled with either HC , glosso or japanese hair grass still thinking
Hi soulfinder78, theres a very nice bogwood! Where did you buy it? I'm looking for something similar for my new 4ft tank too.
it's not a complete 1 piece bogwood. it's actually 2 pieces combine together. Took me 2 months to find the 2nd piece. 1 piece is from NA the other from seaview

Any bros here got experience with T5HO??? is 1 light set enough or do i need 2?
After calculation i got 216 watt, which is like 2.2 WPG (UK). So i was wondering if that will be enough cause i remember reading some articles stating that T5 lights normally have better light intensity and hence requires lesser watt per gallon to be effective. Can any bros here advise me? 1st time using T5 so kinda blur

Bro currently my tank size is 422 and i'm using 2 sets of 3 x 54W HOT5 lighting. But i only use 2 on each side. Cost most of my plant are mid lighting. Depend on your plants and you can buy 1 set first and see if need another set can get it again.

the plants i'm planning to have in my tank.
Hemianthus callitrichoides = moderate and medium light requirement
Microsorum pteropus v. 'narrow leaf' = easy and medium low light requirement
Glossostigma elatinoides = moderate and high light requirement
Bolbitis heudelotti = easy and low light requirement
Anubias barteri v. 'nana' = very easy and low light requirement
Pogostemon helferi = moderate and medium high light requirement
Cryptocoryne wendtii = very easy and low light requirement
Still deciding whether to go for glosso or HC.
please advise and share your experience with me about all these plants with the amount of light i'm using. Is there such thing as some plants can only grow in cooler water temperature??
