Hi guys, I am looking for

    Attachment 6907

    Attachment 6908

or good Apistogramma agassizii "super red" or Ap. trifasciata.

Did any of you seen these apistos in other LFS other than biotope?

The biotope Ap. trifasciata pair exceed my budget. Thanks.

Hmm. But if it is viejita....I more willing to pay more for it....

And also maybe the photos of the fish have been heavily photoshoped... I will want to see the real fish for myself... So if any kind soul around have seen these four fishes in our local LFS please tell me where... Thanks...

The fishes in the pictures will definately cost much more then the Ap. trifasciata pair you mentioned if they do hit Singapore shores.

Ap. viejita of this quality was going for $2xx or more previously. Not only that, since they are not available locally, you may need get it overseas. By the way, the Ap. viejita in your picture should be a "form II" because of its reddness. One of the most sought after and expensive forms.

perhaps you could state your budget so bros here could help you out more? i know that there are trifasciatas and agassizii "super red" available in biotope at reasonable prices. if the ones you see at biotope exceed your budget range, i think you may need to reconsider your expectations as genes has mentioned

If the prices at Biotope have exceeded your budget, I don't think you'll get that kind of quality of apistos you have posted....

The second picture, Ap. Agassizii "Fire Red", is currently sold for S$8X, in our neighbouring countries.....Maybe you want to specify what is your budget?

Seriously if you want good quality apistos with excellent coloration, be prepared to pay near a 3-figure sum for it.....what you pay for, is what you get

Haha eman, i've asked for his budget and he's refused to reveal it thus far

Mavarick, i think you probably need to lower your standards given your budget. After shipping charges, the agassizii "fire red" would probably be a 3 figure sum as well. as genes has mentioned, the quality and species you're seeking run well into 3 figures. perhaps you could consider starting out with a pair of cacatuoides or agassizii reds? they're great apistos to ease you into the hobby as well.

    Thanks for the advice

I am a noob towards apistos

I was looking around for these apistos and hope to find the actual apistos ... If all these apistos are out of my reach... I already decided on apistos... To me they are the most beautiful fishes except maybe arowanas which my house (feng shui) area too small to fit a tank for them when they grow bigger. Actually i am not planning to get more than 1 tank ... So I prefer to get straight to the fish that i like rather than buy a cheaper one first then get another tank then upgrade etc.

Hi Mavarick, it is very much appreciated that when mentioning the names of the apistogrammas, to not use the colloquial lingual forms. As much as possible, try to use the proper names. That way, most members will have a better idea of what fish you are talking about. Sometimes, different species of fish and plants can share the same name, even though their genus name is different... Thus, it is better, for example, to mention 'A.cacatuiodes', rather than just use 'caca'... Thanks.

yo bro maverick, even before you start on thinking which species to keep, i think the first thing you should do is to get yourself a tank first haha

set up the the tank, the aquascaping, the driftwood, the gravel and most importantly the filter system. no doubt apistogramma are drawf fishes, but i believe that they do need tip top water parameters

you look after the water and the water look after the fish.

Bro i suggest that you find out more about the tank conditions and parameters first before purchase any apisto species at all.Maybe you should post the picture of the setup of your tank first and let the rest advice on it. All these conditions plays a part.

No use for you to get the pair that you really want but only to see it sick/dead after few days. Most of the people usually get the so called "easier" species when trying out first time.Once you are familiarize with the them then you can move on to the next stage/level.

i agree with outspoken. get your tank setup right first - thats the most important thing, then get some 'beginner' fishes to play around first before deciding on more exotic and challenging pieces. by then you can always sell or donate your fishes away.

i am nowhere near a pro but i do believe that you should not jump into rash decisions only to regret later on. slow and steady. and also, for a dollar that you paid, it will result in one gram of quality in return. please do not expect anything more than that. no doubt everyone wants to get cheap and good stuff, but prices quoted should still stay within the reasonable range.

looking forward to see your tank setup soon, hopefully you will not be discouraged. thanks.
