Is it normal for malayan shrimp to scurry about when the lights go off and some of them rush to the surface...when i saw this i was afraid there was too much co2 so i plugged in the aerator...i noticed today also tt some of them like to head towards suface disturbance and all when i was chaghing water.
was wondering what is considered normal shrimp behavior and what are some tell tale signs frm shrimp tt something is not right with the tank? []

kubrich, one sure tale sign is the changing of color... its normal to see them active at nite, especially when they r that small and vulnerable.. if CO2 poisoning is present, u shld be able to see yr fishes grasping for air on the surface

    Scurry, scurry, in a hurry,
Flee the shrimp in feeding flurry,
For shellfish have got much to lose,
When they taste so good in seafood curry.

    Kubrich,

Whats your CO2 bubble rate and tank size?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

not sure about the bubble rate cos i am using diy co2 system...and the bubbles are put thru an air stone to make the bubbles finer and easier to dissolve...as for tank size...the tank is 60cm(length) by 30 cm(width) by 45 cm(height. btw, took ure advice vinz and got another light to raise the wattage to 60 wats for the tank...[]

Kubrich..are you planting "High light" plants? If you are..then your watts/gallon is only 2.8. Go for at least 3W..although 0.2 difference, in a long run..your bulb will lose its intensity.... Go get 2 pl..36watts each..better. []

I disagree. Personally, I'll rather live with the 0.2 shortage. Besides... the tank volume is 21USG, but his actual water volume is probably only 18 or 19USG.

    Just my 2 cents.

vinz is right...water quantity is about 19 us gallons...keeping mostly xmas moss and some other plants which aren't very light intensive...from what i understand at least.most to most, all i do is change 1 of the fl tube to 20 wats...tt should compensate for the 0.2 shortage...[]
