filter glass? you mean frosted glass?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
if you mean that piece of tempered glass designed to prevent splash on the light tube, yes.

Er.. not frosted glass and not the glass for splashes
It's this glass tt is used to cover the bulb for MH lamps. It's suppose to reduce UV-A n UV-B. Not too sure if can do without it, as it hinders cooling of the lamp.
Don't nee splash glass cos the lamp is more than 12inch above the water.
And frosted glass just reduce the abt of light going into tank.

ZeroCool,
Whether or not tempered glass is "needed" depends on the type of MH bulb you're using. If it's the screw-in type, then no, because the outer glass layer is already the UV-shield. The real light generation part is within an inner glass tube if you look closely. If you're using the double-ended bulbs, then yes, because the glass is the bulb itself.
In any case, even if the light is 12" above the water, sometimes if powerheads drop off in the wrong angle, they could shoot a jet of water at the bulb (happened to me before, several times). If your bulb is unprotected, it will shatter. Tempered glass is shatter proof.
Also, some MH bulbs are not meant to be aircooled. If you cool it "artificially", the colour spectrum could shift.

Arh. Got it!
This forum really OPEN my eye! [:0]

Metal Halide lamps. The ones above the tanks that AQ setup for Gan and Teo are MH pendant lamps.
