Recently went to LFS and found a Dolphin Brand Fan cooled chiller, but was told that it could only be good enough for a small set up. Anyone has 1 that can share your experience?

For our climate, get the chiller that uses refrigerant instead.

Yea, saw it too. Was wondering is it a TEM (Peltier) setup.

There are 3 sizes, remember the smallest one around $100, seen a $150 price tag, but cannot remember it is on the medium or the large one. Old liao.

most likely using TEM (Peltier) technology. My understanding this type of cooling is not as efficient as refrigerant type. I mean the energy consumption vs water temperature. I saw the brocure at KS (tiong bahru) few months back.

Will Dolphin Brand Fan cooled chiller or TEM (Peltier) technology chiller be more power saving?

Does it work similar to a car coolant system?

I have the CL85 that uses TEM for cooling.

It is definitely less efficient and take a much longer time to lower 2-3 degrees.

As it does heat exchange with the enviroment thought a heat sink, it has to be kept in a cooler and "airy" enviroment and it does generate quite a bit of heat constantly.

The best it can do is about 3 degrees max off the ambient (especially if you have lights that is hot as well).

But it does have size advantage and I believe power consumption is lower. Depends on what you want.

A FAN can bring down about a degree or 2 as well.

I currently use it for my cube tank and can maintain the temperature from 25 to 29 (depending on enviroment which is from 28 to 32)

    It is not power saving

    From wikipedia:
Thermoelectric junctions are generally only around 5–10% as efficient as the ideal refrigerator (Carnot cycle), compared with 40–60% achieved by conventional compression cycle systems (reverse Rankine systems like a compressor). Due to the relatively low efficiency, thermoelectric cooling is generally only used in environments where the solid state nature (no moving parts, maintenance-free) outweighs pure efficiency.

I am only using a fan for my 1.5ft setup... on the hottest day, the water temperature will be around 28 degC... when I turn on the air-con at night in my room, the water temperature will hit 24 degC. I turn on the fan for 24 hours as it is the most 4-5W which is quite low power.

Only drawback is I have to top up water everyday when I reach home...

Not true, I am using TEM and cools 40 litres of water to 23.5 degrees celsius daily. down ambient temp from 33 degrees celsius.

Well I guess the milege is diferent under different conditions.

What is the brand and model you are using ?

My experience with Resun CL85 is definitely not as effective.
I use to run it on a 60L tank and it was worse. Now with a 30L tank, it is getting better in stabilizing the temp but still when the weather is 31-32 C, I can never maintain the temperature at 24/25 like you. Sigh

I use to run it with a Eheim Ecco series at 500l/hr and now with a hydra at 600l/hr. Is this flow too fast for the TEM ?

Anyway this is my experience which is not too good for bigger tank and if you want to maintain your temperature in a hot weather.

Some bros here seems to have much better performance out of theirs.

They dont bring in this model anymore. Now all Teco chillers are manufactured in China. I dont think there are anymore made in Italy and if there are, most likely they are new stocks but old models with black casing, the new models comes with grey casing (Made in China). I'm also using RA200, its a veryimpressive chiller, running for 10 years now with no problems. Don't overwork the chiller is the key.

Sure the Teco Mirco is a TEM and not using R134 coolant ?

Very expensive for a TEM. For the price might as well get a much bigger "real" chiller.

Anyway that is only my opinion.
