I need some info for discus.

    1. What kind of ph is good for them.
    2. how old will a discus start spawning.
    3. what is the water temperature suitable for them.
    4. Can I mix them with other fish such as cardinal, angel or crown loach.
    5. What is the frequency for changing water.

Hope I can find some info here.[:]

    hi silverhawk

depending on the type of discus you intend to keep for wild caught discus the ph level is between 6.4 to 6.8 while hybrid is ranged between 6.8 to 7.0. The temperature is between 28 to 29 some have known to push to 30C.

For discus good tankmates are usually rummy-nose, cardinals, neons, ......clown loaches are best avoided due to their high level of activity especially when the lights goes off. Discus are timid fishes and will scutter like mad dogs when they are bumped into when the lights are off. Angels are also best avoided as your discus may not be able to compete with them for food. Avoid tetras like bleeding hearts, black phantoms, unless it is a small school of 5 to 7.

With regard to water change, well that is dependant on your filtration system, size of tank, fishload, and how much are you feeding. For discus it is good to apportion 1 discus to 10 gallons of water. If the rules are followed perhaps 30% every 5 to 6 days....best to monitor the nitrate level during the first two months so you have a gudget of whatz happening.

Discus will usually start spawning at an estimated age of 1yr to 1.5yrs old.....perhaps someone with breeding experience will be able to give you a better indication

    Howdy partner...

    1. i kept my discus at a pH of 6.5 - 6.8...

    2. Discus can spawn from when about 4"...

    3. Water temp at around 80*F was good for my discus...

    4. Angels, im not sure, i think they may be too boisterous.
Cardinals, neons, rams, rummy nose, whiteclouds ect are all good tankmates.
I reccomend ottos for algae cleaning, rather than common plecos, because common plecs do have a tendancy to suck onto the discus' side...

    5. i changed my water 30% per week, although my tap water is around 6.5 and very soft, so i didnt have to add R/O water or anything of the sorts...

    Hope i kinda helped..

in the midst of all the no replies posts, we still don't know what kind of discus you have?

are you interested in wild discus or man bred discus?
i find wild discus to be much sturdier than man bred strains
do update us on your fish
it'll make discussion much more lively
