Hi guys, thanks..But WAIT! I think the wrigglers are not gone yet as the parents are still taking turns sparring at me. The other simply goes to the back of my tank behind the bogwood (seems to be guarding something). Though I can't see the wrigglers, I'm quite sure their behaviours meant they still have the wrigglers, shifted from the front to the back of my centrepiece bogwood. Yes, I will let 'nature' takes its course for this spawn. I shall await and see.

    Cool

    Hi Bro,

Just to share a little of my experience with ram after 3 month with them.

For my case now i'm facing my 3rd spawn, 1st 2 spawning had not be rewarding as my eggs did not manage to develop.

As my 1st spawn same situation with Puffer breed in community tank with 50 tetra waiting then parent felt stress and decided to have them for lunch on the 1st day as wigglers stage

2nd spawn come ill prepare as well as i thought of having a breeding tank for them they come before i can buy 1 so this time i decided to try my lucky transfer the egg to a small tank i bought for them.

Guess had not read up on the keeping of eggs part all eggs turn back on the 3rd day and end of story for the 2nd spawn.

3rd spawn happen last Fri still 1 step ahead of me as i just bought my tank for spawning on sun notice the ram are happier this time in the small tank i used to house the eggs as it only them and nothing else but on sun before i went out i could not find the eggs not sure if they had ate it or move them else where still looking for it though.

I too realise that ram tend to move their eggs every now and then so this time i'm still looking out if i'm still lucky

If the spawn fail the resting time before the next spawn will be around 3 weeks. they will tend to spawn in the same location as the 1st, at least on my case all 3 spawn is on the same piece of rock same surface.

Last a little spec on my tank
    Tank - 1.5 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft
    4kg light green gex
36 watt pl light 4 hr day 4 hr night
canister filter (taiwan brand seven star model forgot but model no. is 601)
    temp - 25~26

Hope it help to all who wish to breed ram cause i just love them and hope you will too!

    hi Nature Beauty,
Thanks for sharing your experiences and the information given. Hope the eggs are still around in the latest spawn. May I know what are the plants and the ph in your breeding tank? It would be nice to see how your breeding tank's like. I may like to have a layer of peat scattered on top of my Dr Aqua soil to maintain a low ph, but have not decided on the plants (although java moss will definitely be there for a good practical reason). This is going to take time since my current tank is housing some microrasboras and cherry barbs. Thinking of transferrin them into my 3ft tank soon.

    Cool

would love to show you on my tank but i don't have a DC to take it down.

Anyway I did not use any leave for my tank to alter the ph. Just the light green packet gex soil. For the plant i use will be the following

    Japanese HG
    Tiger Lotus
    C. Parva
    E. Tenellus
    US Fissiden (on bogwood)
    Spiky Moss (Moss Wall)

I just rescape my tank and its going through the toughest cycling time now . But I had been searching around for the german rams, yet to find nice ones and only found ballon rams. Anywhere to recommend to find them? I saw some at C328 but hardly attractive

Anyway just asking, if you remove them to the spawn tank, logically it should be of the same water perameters but wouldn't they be too stress out to spawn upon a change of environment?

Well for my case when i switch them to the smaller tank with the eggs i actually use 100% of water from my old community tank which i house the pair, this is to avoid any changes of water parameter.

Anyway good news today morning after thinking it game over for me on my 3rd spawn think that they decided not to give up on me i saw 2 wrigglers swiming around the parents

Hope things will improve from there

Finally had to say after 3 month it finally paid off seeing those little guy swimming around hahaha Having tons of moss currently in the Temp Breeding tank hope it will provide enough food for the time been.

Anyone know what to feed them when they are bigger? other than Baby Brine Shrimps?

you could have a culture of infusoria. i usually make sure that there's a bunch of moss in my breeding tanks. i've read that infusoria grows and congregate on moss clumps, and the fry can feed on them there. so far i've had pretty good experience with fry progressing on to eat decapsulated brine shrimp eggs after a few days so this method should work
Or you can also try dry foods for frys which our lfs sells. One green small pack(powder form) i think is hakira brand for fries quite good i used to feed it to my guppy fries and they grow very fast and healthy...
Or you can try live micro daphine which our lfs also sells very cheap very big pack of live food more than enough for your hundreds of fries...
    Cheers,

Hello All! Holy Gosh! I just came back home and guess what? Tons of white fries swimming behind my tank! Now my excitement is back! Yeah they are really small, so I'll just leave them alone for now. Believe the thick moss and riccia will provide some sorts of food for the fries? Do I also need to dose Liquidfry 1? Ben, you just mentioned the Hikari green powder food - will the powder sink or need to mix with water first than inject near the fries? Paul, congrats to you too! Keep on sharing! Great news for us man!

I dosed a few drops of Liquidfry 1 but can only see the parents eating it. The parents are really fierce, forcing all the other faunas to the corner of my left tank. Only the SAE dare to lurk around but will always be chased away. Only the otos are welcome into their territory. The parents rams even chased away my 4" long horse-faced loach and albino bristlenoses. Now I'm trying to solve the light-off problem - thinking of getting a low wattage old FL light for the night, to prevent the cardinals and SAE 'commando-ing' the fries in the dark.

What does if your ID good means?

Puffer, the liquid fry doesn't provide direct food for the fries but the fries do consume them in small quantity. I used to feed my apisto fries last time with liquid fry formula till they are big enough for blood worms.

Beware of the Ram parents, they might be ready to spawn anytime soon.

My suggestion will be as usual, remove the male rams when the male ram is hinting the female for another spawn.

    Cheers!

Puffer a "night light" will help lost fry after "lights out".
Try to get one going ASAP to reduce loss at night.

What are the signs to look out for when the male ram is ready for the next spawn? Do I need to feed more for the adults since they use so much energy chasing away intruders? I still continue to feed fries every 3-4 hrs with Liquidfry using a dropper.

Celtifish, Yes, I have an old FL tube 2 feet on last night. Thank goodness had experience breeding discus before so thought should be roughly similar. I believe it is more a challenge feeding young ram fries as compared to discus since mother discus has mucus on her body for young fries to feed on constantly?
