Recently I bought a piece of new drift wood from a reputable LFS in Lim Chu Kang Area.

The piece of paper attached to the wood indicated that it is a XingJiang Drift Wood.

However after soaking the wood for almost a week, it ooze out brown pigment and dyeing my tank water. I just change the tank water and soaked the wood in a basin

Is it natural for these type of Drift Wood to ooze out so much brown pigment?

Or is it it due to artificial colouration on the wood?

I am just thinking, if you saw the wood at one of the edge, you should be able to see if it is natural or artificial coloration. If it is natural, the color at the middle of the cut section and the edge should be the same. If the edge is darker in color and the center is lighter, it may be coloring. Not too sure whether this is the right way..

I've always boil my wood for about a couple of days before I place them in the tank. This way, I'll fasten the process of tannic acid leaking, make the wood sink faster and lastly, kill as much unwanted pest in the process...

The LFS which I bought the driftwood (not XingJiang Drift Wood) asked me to soak it for 3 weeks to remove tannic acid before putting it into the tank. I have already soaked my driftwood for 2 weeks. The colour of the water has changed, the driftwood has a slimy layer on top which I remove from time to time; and the drifwood can sink on it's own now.

hi. maverick, like what i have mention to you 2 week ago on SMS, if your this piece is already in your tank, you can use active carbon to remove the tannic colouring.

I tried using carbon but it isn't very effective. Now i take out the wood and soak it in my basin right now(as shown above)
