discus in planted tank

hi guys,

I have a planted tank and have added 3 discus in.
they are okie..the only thing is that they stay behind the plants
only swimming in front for about an hr a day.
along with them I have neons, oto, yamato and a pair of siamese fighting fish.
wat can I do to make them come up front?
is three too little?

discus feel more secure in numbers.. btw, how big is yr tank? its normal to have them all hiding, especially when its a planted tank... for me, my discus got no where to hide coz my 6ft is 3 sided view.. so once they get used to u and yr routine.. they will come out

Size of tank??

It's normal that they would want to hide, esp. in bright lit aquaria when they're not used to it.

GIve it time, and it'll gladly come out to explore more and be more willing to display in front of you.

Give them some time since they are just introduced into the tank. Soon they will be in front begging you for food.

its a 3 feet tank. I'm wondering if I put 2 more in will they feel better.
I dun seem to see them eating..worried that they will be starved to death.

penny, dun worry, they can go without food for a while... especially when they adapting to a new environment.. usually if one fo them starts feeding the rest will follow suit

i dont think its a good idea to add any more discus.....a 3fter is already pretty tight for 3 discus and if you do put in 2 more, chances likely you may have a massive tank fight everyday once they settle in

I notice they come out when there is no one ard...once we crowd round (still far away) they will go hide....they do not seem to eat the food I bought them (those sinking types, orange in color) you guys have any other suggestions of what to feed them? I dun realyl like live foods..fear of diesease and bad water.

So are they eating yet??

Starve them for a few days and they'll take anything after that. Pellets and anything you offer. Else, you can try the free-dried foods. or deep-frozen blood worms.

Just one question, I have 2 royal red spotted and another 3 solid light color discus; blue white and red white all about 3.5-4". But the royal red spotted always become very dark when inside the planted tank until I get mad and put them inside a bare tank whereas they lighten up immediately. I tried for 2 week in the planted tank. They are ok, feeding well inside the planted but just very dark in color.
Both tank are 3 ft. for the planted I use black gravel with mainly swords. Any suggestion if I want to keep the royal red spotted inside the planted tank ? Water parameter never test, but the planted have about 40 cardinal and 8 pcs of zebra inside using a Ehiem 2226 and 2233 with Co2 diffuser and rainbar, the bare tank using 3ft overhead. Thanks.
