I am newbie.
Need some advice : Does anyone know this is safe for use in CRS tank in order to bring the PH down? Tried changing soil but not really work.
should be safe, but lower the pH very _slowly_
1.0 per 24 hours should be no problem. make sure you measure how far the peat lowers the pH first.
Personally I prefer using a pH down solution like the AquaMedi one. Gives you a lot more control.
I use peat to lower Ph, for me works fine, but you have to control the Ph as it can go very low in one day, monitor the Ph and take away the peat when you reach the desired Ph, you will notice that in a few days it raises again, so put the peat back to the tank again, If you do so, controling the Ph, you will stabilize it in two weeks.
The first days with the peat, soak it in the tank for a few hours, and always monitor the Ph. I´m doing this in a 60 gallons tank.
Now my Ph is 6,5 at night, and 6,8 during the day.
My CRS are healthy and breeding.
Good luck!
Thanks to Piyayo and Fuzzy for their replies! I thought no one was going to reply at all. Prefer using Peat as its not really a chemical solution.
Need to wash the peat first right? I will use amount of peat progressively, starting with the minimum amount and monitoring the PH before increasing gradually.....
Hi Crfan,
Yes, you have to wash it a litttle, but anyway my peat always leaves some dust.
Good luck.
Coral chip work fine too.
White color rock.
i use pH down buffer... its some kinda powder, more gentle and more control. jst another suggestion
