are malayan shrimps like bee shrimps and cherry shrimps as in they're more ornamental?
I guess I'll be putting in a few yamatoes then.
Hi,
I put my malayans, bees and tiger shrimps together, plus an odd yamato shrimp. They are all living happily together but I realised that my glass catfish and rams actually attack them. So I removed the rams and keep them in my empty quarantine tank. I lost a couple of bees and tiger shrimps due to them. The glass catfish tried to eat them but the shrimps are fast. So I leave them alone. Strange thing that glass catfish will want to eat shrimps.
I thought of adding yamatos but dunno where to get them cheap. The last lobang I got is 10 for $8. But the shop ran of of stock for yamatoes.
Regards,
Brigitte

Malayan are the least ornamental. Mostly brown(some actually come in red and even blue! I don't know why also.) Why they are popular is because they are cheap(100 for $10.) They eat algae(not as efficient as yamato), no problem mixing with other shrimps like bee, tiger and cherry(CHERRY RED SHRIMP.. stop thinking about something else!). And above all, their eggs do hatch and survive!![]()
hehe...i was not thinking about something else....i've got 15 really red cherries(cherry shrimps hor!) in my tank.
Hi steve, am I right to say that you have the intention to put yamatoes with your cherries? High risk leh.. think twice![] [

I was thinking of that, but then I don't think so anymore. To counter any algae problems in future I plan to add another 10 more cherry shrimps and 10 malayan shrimps.
From there I'll gauge and see how.
