    are those japonica that we get in singapore the real japonica??

    I'm pretty sure that "echinosperma" is falsely attributed to B. japonica. It's actually a variant of Blyxa aubertii.

    B. japonica itself has two variants to the best of my knowledge but I'm not sure of the differences between them. The colour difference is down to lighting and to a lesser extent nutrients (just like many other plants).

    Yep. Think of it like it's got a sun-tan. Or sunburn maybe.
