    Hi all,

I know this is actually stupid question but to me a valuable information.

Can anybody tell me... compare to ADA or GeX substrate to JPl base with lapis sand...which one better in long terms like consistent good plant growth?

Going to buy at least 3 sacks of JPL for my new 4ft tank project..(vivarium or planted types) but I must check with you guys' advise first . For i know many advises ensure a perfect project! Should I use JPL base with lapis sand or other ADA or GenX substrate for my project.

Or ADA or GenX on top of lapis sand or other red substrates as base?

    Please advise...my gurus

    cheers

Never heard of JPL substrate except JBL. All substrate should work well but will not last forever (If you wish to go for looks, ADA and Gex looks good). You will still need to dose through the water column in the end though. Consider a low light tank whichever method you do (CO2 or non-CO2) as it will give you room for error and much stable tank.

I chose JBL & lapis for my 3' setup as it was more economical. So far my plants are thriving but I use with Seachem ferts.

    Thanks Quixotic.
Hmm.. seems like it comes in different sizes. What is the common or recommended gravel size (eg #2/17, Medium, etc) for planted tank.

I read from somewhere it should be between 2-4mm?

I don't exactly remember the size, if there was one. Regardless, I think that if you were to get them from the LFS, they seem to be the same size and suitable for planted tanks.
