Hi Benny, is there are any Panaque species that can fit into a standard 2ft tank? And what other requirements are needed in keeping them?
    Thanks.

Actually, most Panaque species will grow relative big. If you have an Amazonia concept tank that is mostly driftwood and substrate, you should be able to house juvenile specimens. They do take a fairly long time to grow in size. So a year or 2 in your 2 ft tank may not post much of a problem, provided it's not over crowded.

Besides L27, here's a few juveniles that's commonly found in the shops locally.

And here's a few of the larger specimens...

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Wow nice, thanks for the quick reply. I like the L190 Panaque cf. nigrolineatus. Would they pose a danger to Apistogramma eggs and fries? And what should their diet comprise of.

This one looks good too but I've hardly seen it around. Or maybe i didn't pay enough attention.
I'm seriously considering a juvenile L190. Really like its clear stripes down the length of the body. Any tips on choosing a healthy fish?

Do avoid sunken eyes and sunken tummy...the eyes should "sits" above the contour of the head almost like popping out, and when moved against the glass, the tummy should not be caved in, a nice round tummy is healthy. A healthy fish will always try to hide, avoid sickly looking ones out in the open. Any signs that distract from a vibrant colored looking specimen is a sure sign of disease.

Although the panaque sp is priimarily a wood eater, apistos eggs will be relished just like larvae in the wild...plecs do well in well oxgenated water with some current.

Hmm just realised my filtration may not be enough. Panaques produce lots of poo right? Maybe i should put panaques on hold. Haha.

a lot a lot of poo. its never wrong to over filtrate a pleco tank, especially when it comes to panaques. it would be pretty tough to keep apisto eggs away from your plecos as they feed at night when the adult apistos are resting, hence not advisable to add plecos into your breeding tanks.
