    Hi,

I suggest you do read up in our aquascaping section first before setting up.

You need to know what type of set up are you looking for.

After you have decided, then I believe the members will be able to advise you.

    Hi,

Why not I suggest this. You can go plan and list down the plants, accessories and tank setup you are intending to do.

Then it will be easier for members to advice you.

Do some detailed research in setting a low maintainence tank.

That is the joy of this hobby. You learn as you explored.

I think taste is quite subjective. As such, it would be much easier if you have something to reference and we help you work towards it.

    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/galle...mages.php?c=27

The above link is for the freshwater aquariums in our gallery. See if there is something you like, link in here and we'll help to identify the plants and see if there's a way to 'fit' that style into your tank.

But!!! I would suggest something easy and low maintenance for a start. Wouldn't want you to drop out of the hobby too quickly if it becomes a hassle.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Thank you bro benny for your advice... here are some of the links that i want to implement for my low cost , no -c02 tank setup.

Just need help to get what type of plants and soil siltrate. I did some readings in the sticky section but then the more i read the more confused i am :S And on a side note, is the filter that i am using in the current tank setup that i have now sufficient or i need to get a better filter system?

i am sorry i just started out in this hobby and would very much appreciate valuable comments and advice. Thanks bro in advance! Cheers

    Hi ShadyFish,

hope you don't mind that I 'ride' on your thread... I'm new (as in Super NEW...) to doing planted tanks... So need a lot of guidance & help in here...

Similar to you, I only have past experiences in rearing fishes (Louhans, goldfishes, gouramis etc... ), stopped in ever since marriage & shifted place... Din have time to pick up hobby again with a newborn addition last year also... Haiz (actually all execuses lah...)

Thinking of starting small like you also (Start up a Low Maintenance Tank first to rear shrimps... Hopefully breed CRS as they are super cute...)

I also have a few used items from my 'expired' hobby (still at my old place collecting dust...). I have about 3 to 4 pieces of 2-feet tanks, 1 piece of 3-tier stand for these tanks, some used Dolphin Overhead Filter (P-708 & P-80, some pieces of Driftwood (I think so, will take pics & post here if possible...), & some pebbles here & there...

Wud like advises by experts in here if the any of the above items I can recycle to use for my interest in picking up Planted Tanks. If not, what are the other equipment that I'll need to get started... Have read up on some of the stickies in here on getting started... but maybe my intelligence too low...

So hope to learn as much as possible from all in here!!!

By the way, anyone knows where can get good deals (not too expensive, yet durable...<-- In Hokkien it means "You Ai Pi, You Ai Qi") of those tanks set-up with cabinet at the bottom?

For equipment wise, you may want to try Nature aquarium located at balestier. Their prices are quite reasonable.
