BBS not hatching

my bbs i bought from a fellow forumer who's reason is that he is giving up the hobby.
i bought it from him with a hatching dish like the MO one..

But so far, i havent got a single hatch.
what could be the reason?

first time i tried freshwater. my bad
second time i put a teeny weeny bit of eggs into salt water. not salty enough?
third attempt alot more salt.

PLEASE Advice. AM i CONNED INTO BUYING EGGS THAT HAVE BEEN KEPT TOO LONG THAT CANNOT BE HATCHED?

Here's what I did,

1) Pour water to the indicated mark, not above the white divider
2) Empty the water into a separate container
3) Add 1 tablespoon of Marine Salt and stir (Best to leave it overnight, stir occassionally)
4) Pour the saltwater into the hatchery dish
5) spinkle one gram or less of BBS eggs
6) Will hatch in 12hrs time

You may want to check the quality of the eggs, best to keep in the fridge for best results....BBS kept in the open have lesser hatch rates

Nope, the water is not suppose to flow over the white divider...
The white divider is used to separate the eggs and allows only the bbs to swim to the center for harvesting

Look at the disk wall, there is a water level mark. I put 3 tea spoons of Aquarium salt NOT COOKING SALT.

yeah i know..but if there is no water in the centre areas then the bbs wont be able to swim across right? thanks for the advice so far.

when the water reach the level mark, it will fill up the center area as well. So if you fill it properly, the water should be about 1/3 or 1/4 from the top of the white devider.

okok i think i get it.so you fill from the sides, to the water mark line, then it will overflow to the middle right?

then pour the water out, add 1 tablespoon full of aquarium salt, stir for a while, add it into the hatching dish, add in less than 1g of eggs and wait.

wait with the top open or close? or doesnt matter?

yes you got it.

Put the egg at the most outher layer, once hatch BBS will swim to the center looking for light.

top must be close, otherwise BBS will not swim to center.

as long as got salt water, sure will hatched within 36hrs

what do the eggs look like after getting hatched? i have no idea what you guys mean by high hatch rates...haha..

see the problem is there is no pictorial manual..haha

High hatch rates means that there is a lot of bbs hatched in proportion of the amount of bbs eggs you put....for low hatch rate eggs, less bbs are hatched even though a lot of eggs are used...

Maybe it'll be good for you to visit any bro's home and check out their hatchery dish, to see and understand how it all works I stay in Eunos

Like Eman, mine hatch within 12 hours but continue to do so beyond 24 hours. If they hatch, you can't miss it. At about 12 hours, there is a big mass of them (red dots) in the sieve/spoon. I noticed the later hatches tend to be paler (very white) but larger.

After I changed to marine salt, I noticed the hatch rate is better but it also works with aquarium salt. About 1 tablespoon of salt is about right. Too much salt lowers the hatch rate for me.

Also read somewhere you should clean the hatchery well as contaminants (I suppose bacteria) affects hatch rate.
