This is the week 6 photo.
Plants are doing reasonably well. Fishes and shrimps are happy too and so am I...
You can try the low tech method yourself too.
Setup a low tech tank a month ago using Diana Walstad’s method. Just want to share with you the progress and the experience.
Tank Dimension: 2ft
CO 2 injection: None
Substrate: 1-1.5 inch of potting soil, top with 1 inch of gravel
Water change: Top up twice weekly
Filter: A small submerged filter with most of the filter medium removed
Fertilization: A small drop a week (after reading Tom Barr non CO2 method… ok, ok I know I am not a true Diana follower :-))
Lights: 36w PL, 10 hours daily (morning 4 hrs, night 6 hrs)
PH/KH/GH/NO2/NO3/Temperature: Unknown, not measured
Residents: 5 Neon Tetra, 4 Glow Light Tetra, 3 Yamato Shrimps, 1 red platy and snails
Plants: Red Tiger Lotus , Hornwort , Frogbits , Brown (or red?) Cabomba, Vallisneria Asiatica, Rotala Indica, Echinodorus Tenellus, Bacopa Carolina, Java Fern, Sword Plant.
Attached pictures of tank after Day 1 and Day 9

Did some minor rearrangement. Added some plants, courtesy from some of the brothers, on the side and front of the tank. This gives the tank a more jungle look.

Do you have any problems with algae ?
I have green spot algae on the glass even in my low tech tanksso I need some advice
marle, ranmastome,
Thanks for the kind comments.
Kenny,
Occasionally green spot (small amount) and brown algae do appear on the glass. I just leave them alone if it is not too unsightly or just wipe them off before I take photo.
