Probably higher resistance against water.... water proof? I don't think so.

Solid plywood, I have not heard of them in liquid or gas state ....

Jokes a side, its the main structure that is critical, so it depends on the design. I had seen some plywood cabinets with Chennai "pillars", the look pretty strong. These days however, most wooded cabinets doesn't seems to use the pillar concept anymore.

Get a chennai wood frame. It doesn't matter what wood is used for the cabinet doors, back panel etc as long as it has high level of water resistance. But the frame got to be sturdy. Otherwise, you would be better off just getting a metal stand.

You can look for a meranti wood furniture around paya lebar area near the A-Z complex. Those by far, I believe are value for money.

If you really want really long lasting, you have to pay even more for mangrove wood, those are definitely do not break down even under very wet conditions.

Strengthwise, meranti will win mangrove hands down, but durability under wet conditions will have to go to mangrove wood.

Yes, mine does not come with pillars concept too. I have seen those with chennai pillars and it is very very strong. This wood is dark and smooth. However, it is very difficult to drill. The drill bit will gets very hot during drilling; ...imagine the density of the wood...

Some famous brand like eheim cabinet does not seem to come with pillars concept too. Hummm...interesting...

Although my cabinet for 4x2x2ft does not come with pillars concept, lucky for me it still survive the shake from the last earthquake.

BTW, my cabinet is using meranti plywood if I am not wrong.
