    as per subject,
    if i use 54watt ballast to fire 39 watt tube....
    is it ok ?

    will it spoilt the tube?

    it will shorten the life of the tube. however, i am not sure by how much.

    What I read before, this is overdriving the tube, to give better illumination /penetration.
