    Hi guys,

I am revamping my 3 footer.
    Currently considering the following substrate:

    1. ADA Amazonian
    2. GEX soil
    3. Aquaclay

Which do you guys suggest ?
And how much do I need for my 3 ft tank ? I presume 2 packs of 9L-10L will be enough ?

Lastly, I will be using JBJ Base fert to complete the equation. Any other recommendations for base fert ?

    Thanks all!

    Bro

Among the 3 substrate that you mention, I would say that if you planning to setup a planted tank get ADA Amazonia/Amazonia II if you planning to setup a shrimp tank get GEX soil. As for Aquaclay i never use before so cannot give any suggestion.

actually GEX is great for planted tank too, and cheaper but that is if you know where to find it. not sure about ADA amazonia as i have never use it before, but i know GEX do not cloud the water as long as ADA. even when im swirling my mini tank and pouring away the water and filling it up just like you fill a water bottle, i can see small particles floating but around 2hrs later , its clear again.

get Gex for your planted tank. you won't regret it in terms of plant growth and water clarity. cheaper too

    hi
can grow HC , tonina on Gex ?

cos from my understanding, these plants got better results with soil/clay-based substrate, anyone growing them on Gex ?

i managed to grow HC on GEX, but in emmersed form. filled up with water in the end got some fungus and algae taking over the HC so just clear it.

erm, isnt GEX also soil/clay-based substrate?

anything you can grow in ADA, you can grow in Gex. you just spend less on Gex and have clear water right from the start.

doubleace, ADA is NOT a better substrate for planted tanks than Gex is

Is it? I though that all alone ADA is recommend for planted tank than GEX. Guess that I'm wrong..

haha the older generation do recommend ADA over everything else. but lately alot of hobbyists are trying out Gex with very excellent results so i'd say the throne's been toppled

aquaclay has no added nutrients at all unlike Gex, which is soil based and comes chock full of nutrients. further, aquaclay is alot lighter than soil, and thus it's harder to plant and keep the plants rooted
