I'm not too sure. Could well be a male too. Might be too early to tell.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Well, prob have to wait for a while before I can determine I suppose..
THe tail is rather rounded thus I felt it was more of a female. The prob is cannot remember how old the fishes are...
Any other thoughts from anyone?

I'm with illumnae i believe it is a female too.

Based on your photos, I think its a female. If you have a confirmed male, try pairing and watch its reaction. Btw, how old is this Apistogramma agassizii "Tefe"i?
Hey all
I did an estimated age of the fishes by looking at my earlier posts. I think those fishes came out in June 07. This means that they are about 5 months old. Does this help?

Hi.. I think it's a female too.. I had a pair before but I lost the male a couple of days back.. so now the poor lonely female is on her own...

Female. First 2 rays on dorsal fin is black in color. Anal fin & caudal fin are both rounded.
Based on the photos you uploaded, the specimen doesn't seem to show any coloring or patterns in the tail you mentioned. I think many of the guys who answered your post will agree.
There are cases where a young female look alike turns out to be a male instead. That happens frequently in the wild, especially when the habitat size is extremely crowded during dry season and plenty of aggression between males vying for space.

The chance of a sneaker male is always there, my pair of caca turn out to be 2 males.
The dominant male will cause the other male to adopt a more feminine look to avoid getting whacked. I separated the 2 males and after a while the sneaker male begin to color up and patterns appeared on the tail and begin to look like a male.
So, I guess if you really want to find out if the "female" is a male, separate them and let it develop. Check out this link, you can see the sneaker male turned into a male. http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=30921

Jeffrey it looks like a male now. I don't think a female has that much blue speckles on the face, plus the colouration on the tail.
