Recommendations on Small External Canister Filter

Hi everyone, I would like to ask for opinions on small external filters. I am considering getting one for my 40cm/25cm/27cm shrimp tank, currently housing 10 RCS and 20 Malayan.. It's now running on 1 sponge filter and 1 overhang filter(covered inlet with sponge)

After reading through AQ forums and other forums, I have narrowed down to 3 models..

    1) Eden 501

    Price: about 1 blue note
    Size: Small
Seems to get good reviews for it, but seems like only suitable for small tanks..(no/less potential for reuse if i upgrade tank). Also it does not come with the attachment to hang it on the back of the tank.

    2) Resun CY-20

Price: Not sure, but less than Eden (anyone can tell me where to buy at what price?)
Size: Medium, larger that Eden 501
I know this one comes with
attachment to hang at the back of the tank, and it's fairly large, so maybe can use for future larger tank. But will it be overkill for my 40cm tank and cause a lot of current?

    3) Boyu EF-05 (or EFU-05 w/ UV light)

Price: Seems like same as Eden501 (At least at Y618 it was just slightly less, UV version more expensive than Eden501) Anyone know which LFS offering good deals?
This one I don't know much about it, only seen the box before.. Maybe someone with experience can shed some light?

In summary, I would like to ask whether the Eden501 (considering it's smaller, no hang on attachment) is worth the price? Maybe it's very quiet or that the other 2 models have issues or something?

Hope some of you more experienced members can help me out.. Btw, I do have a budget constraint, else I would have prob just gone for the Eden501..(if I do decide on the Eden, I'd have to save up for it..)

Here's a pic of my Shrimp Tank as "reward" for those who bothered to read through my post.. (Or for those who just scrolled down la..)

One more thing, any one knows if the above 3 filters have a control valve that allows me to lower the flow rate if necessary?

Btw, I'm more towards getting the Resen CY-20, mainly cause of it's cheaper price, included attachment clip, and larger size for potential upgrade..

The only draw backs are that it's fairly large and will look weird on the back of my small 40cm tank, and that it may or may not have a control valve(any one can confirm?), thus current might be too strong for my shrimps..

Also, anyone knows if there are leakage problems with the Resun? I would not want my room flooded when I get back from school..

And most importantly, after I do decide which one I would like to get, where can I get them the cheapest?

I would definately choose Eden501. You won't regret owning one. Great resale value. It doesn't come with control valve & you'll never need that for the size of your tank.

Apart from comparing the price of the equipment (1 time cost), don't overlook the running cost, eg: power consumption. Even with 1W difference, the saving you'll gain is great (since we usually have filter running 24x7).
    Cheers,

Actually for your set-up, your current filtration looks OK. Eden 501 is 300l/hr, wont that be too high for your shrimps..

Eden 501 external canister actually comes with an optional hang on bracket. Alternatively, one of our members MrTree found a good subsitute at Ikea too. It's in one of the older posts.

As for flow control, you can do that with either single or double tap valve. Just match it to your hose size. Most brands have it, but Eheim ones are the most common.

By the way, there are other Eden 501 look alike models in the market too. I have seen some at C328 at Clementi Ave 2 before.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Well.. I had some concerns of my current filtration not being good enuff.. thus was exploring the idea of getting an ext canister..

Maybe I'll stick to my current one till either I decide on wat i wanna get (or not get at all), and also have the funds to purchase my filter..

    Thanks for your opinion..
