removing green algae on tank's glass surface

If it's GSA then I doubt an Oto nor an SAE can help clean if for you. Oto's will take care of diatom algae and SAE's i think are good for hair algae. Nerite snails do take care of GSA. But I use an old credit card to remove GSA. Also if you dose fertz in this tank..try upping your phospate dosing. Worked for me.

GSA is green spot algae.

The horn snails you find in the LFS are nerite snails, i.e. belonging to the Neritidae family. You can look up the Invertebrates section for related discussions.

The most effective way to remove green spots and brown algae on tank glass without wetting your hands is to use thoe long-handle algae scrapper that you can purchase from lfs for about $10. It comes with a metallic razor-like attachment that won't leave scratch marks. With this gadget, you can keep algae at bay. No more shoulder aches too. Definitely a whole lot better than the credit card method.

For Green Spot Algae...use those horn snails with yellow and black stripes.
Super effective, they really eat those green spot algae on my filter inlet tubes and CO2 tubing until they look like brand new!

BTW, otto and SAE are useless in dealing with GSA

Bros, is the horn snails effective against GSA? Will they reproduce rapidly? I'm wanted to buy but scared they mass produce

The horn snails will not reproduce but I did encounter snail eggs. This happens when you have too many of them. For a 1 ft cube tank, 1 snail is enough.. for a 2ft, I keep about 3.

morning guys,

i tried asking this in another old thread but to no avail, so was hoping if anyone here could advise...

my otos i bought about 2-4wks ago, died suddenly yesterday,
but all the other fishes(2 corys, alot of discus, some cheap shrimps) all seem okay.

i have since changed about 35% of water, and fed them this morning. all seems well still. i have also turned on the uv sterilizer that i have last night.

what should i do?
otos did a great job controling the algae on the glass walls and glass floor.
but i'm disturbed that they died out of no reason. any possible reasons?
