Taiwan Moss - will they die under excessive lighting condit

My Taiwan moss seemed to be dying (turning black). Next to it, the Java Moss seemed to be thriving with lots of new growth. I believe I have too much lighting (8x36W for 250l, 4ft tank) but then again I am keeping quite a few red-plants.

Has the taiwan moss symton got anything to do with the lightings?

How's your water temperature??
I think you are refering to the X'mas moss (aka Taiwan moss)...
they don't do well under high temperatures.. will become stringy or black so it might be your water temperature ... rather than light issue..

Mine turn black once temp went up.....

I bought this Taiwan moss from NA and Chan specifically told me it is not Christmas Moss. He also got a small tank full of those plant. It is back-to-back (in the shop) to the outside tank that has tons of moss. So what exactly did I buy?

Anyway, the moss I got was doing ok when I was just having 4x36W. If it is temp, do you think it will help if I put in more fans? Right now I am already having a row of 6 fans. Probably with the extra lightings the fans is not as effective anymore.

What's the temp of your water... could be high temps causing the moss to die. 8xPLs generate hell a lot of heat. Do your really need 8? 6 will give you 3.3w/Gal already.

The last time I bought this moss from a LFS, realise that it is actually X'mas moss...
Anyway, is there such Taiwan Moss...

BTW, these terms about moss is driving me crazy.... taiwan, x'mas, java... what will we call them next..

from what I know.... there is currently only 2 kinds so far available in LFS... Java and X'mas... sorry, actually 3... Sam Yick brings in a new variety recently... got it from Taiwan and they really look different from the rest ... also very different in price..[] []

hello everyone,

i was stumped by the names of the names of the mosses they sell nowadays.

i think taiwan moss=xmass moss=triangular moss.

i think the emergents sold in NA is the same as those in petmart.

i got mine from petmart. grew them and they didn't turn out to be triangular in shape. i don't even think it is java moss. petmart's display tank has lots of it.

your tank might be too warm for it. 27 degree C and below is the best. add lots of K too. around 20ppm

It could be the temp, it could also be the nutrients.

You have high lights, nutrients uptake would be high too especially if you have stem plants. Are there enough nutrients left for the xmas moss could be question too.
