Chiller question

I completed my diy chiller using a bar fridge for my 2 ft shrimp tank over the weekend. I set the temperature at 24 degrees celcius. For the past two days, it had been 23 in the morning and 23.5 to 23.8 around 10pm when the lights goes off . Room temperature is around 29.

My power meter shows that the power consumption for a day to be around 3kwh for the diy chiller. This work out to be around $20 a month.

May I know what is the average monthly electrical bill for running a commercial chiller for a 2ft tank set at 24 degrees is like? I would like to do the maths and see if it is worth running my diy chiller or get a commercial one instead in the long run.

It is only a temporary setup. I am considering if I should keep it running or should I get a commercial one.

I have a few CRS with eggs in the tank now and I am hoping that this temporary chiller will help with the survival rate of the shrimplets.

hi sookf.. i read up the whole 23 pages in the thread.. the link you posted. im doing it too.. my uncle will be giving me his mini bar fridge.. whats your bar fridge's wattage? the fridge that james(in killies.com) got is only 70watt.. and it has thermostat.. so the monthly bill should not exceed $10 mah.. cause a normal 1/10hp chiller for 2ft should be around 200 - 300watt.

The bar fridge wattage is rated at 70w or 80w, cannot remember exactly but when I use a power meter to measure it, the actual power consume is 160-170w when the compressor kick in. Here is a picture of the similar fridge I that I use.



I am still playing around with the thermostat setting to find the most efficient setting.

I have been observing a few of the baby CRS shrimplets in the tank for the past few days, seems to be doing fine so far
