I THINK its a male. A female will normally have a rounder tail and shorter ventral fins if i'm not wrong.

Hummm...it's rather difficult to judge from this picture...But a better picture will allow a better judgement...How about taking another shot while it's in mid water clearly showing the full body??
But fromthe current picture...I will says it's close to 60% male..
BTW,it's a nice male.

thats a definite male bud the female has a short caudlad fin compared to the male.
never had much luck with them, the male has always killed the females.

Eddy,
I think 70% it is a male.
mick,
Candidi female are well known to be aggressive when they spawn.

from personal experience and that of a few people i know, when the male is in the mood to breed and the female is'nt he is likely to kill her and any other female who is'nt readyto breed unless there are loads of hideholes or a large tank.
as to the female being aggresive are'nt they all when they are caring for eggs/fry.
mick

I currently have a pair. Still trying to breed this pair.

i think there's still 1 pair left at biotope...i saw one (the other was hiding) when i went on saturday =)

Male. The spade-shape of the caudal tail is showing in the form of the rugged edge. Anal fins looked quite shape to me as well.
When my pair was breeding for the first time, the male was hiding all the time. Now, the male is bothering the female whenever she is breeding. Lost 3 broods of eggs already as a result.
They definitely need big tanks. Anything smaller than 2ft, one of them will suffer

confirmed. it's a male
this pair was kept in 3ft tank. i've just separate them as the bigger size male is badly injured

You got a fierce female there. Can attack the male in a 3ft tank.

yeah, most likely a male looking at the lanceolate caudal fin.

Nicholas I think you got it slightly wrong. The "female" is actually a sneaker male as seen in the picture posted by Eddy. So its a small male attacking a bigger male. Still fierce considering its a 3ft tank.

No matter how big your tank is, as long as they have line of sight, the dorminant one will start whacking the other males and sometimes even females. So like i posted in the other thread, provide lots of hiding space.

there's plenty of hiding spot in my anubias tank.
that hopeless big guy....it's so timid. cant get it to flare at the mirror

Thanks for spotting my error Chongyu.
