    Hi guys,

bought my first pair of Apistos today from c328. My tank is rather small, 1 feet only, i know a good size is 2 feet and above after readings from AQ. Nonetheless, the temptation got the better of me and i got a pair for myself. I am damn excited now!

Hope everything goes well with them.

I am too used to taking pictures of shrimps, to capture a picture of them is so hard!

thanks guys, still got to learn alot from you all.

will have some noob questions coming up, eg. i tried feeding it frozen dried canned bloodworms but i don't see them eating it. lol. Any certain brand of food is recommended for them to make them really fat other than frozen bloodworms?

    Both of them look skinny.

I am housing them with a pair of clown killies and 1 tiger oto and 1 boraras.

they do take some time to get accustomed to their environment and to new food. give them a few days to acclimitize and they'll be eating what you feed them =) try giving them a more varied diet than freeze dried bloodworms as bloodworms are not a good nutrient source for fish...perhaps you could get some Tetrabits or Tetra Colour Pro, or perhaps New Life Spectrum pellets? those are good staple foods for apistos and provide them with the required nutrients as well as having colour enhancing properties

it's probably just me being paranoid whenever i see a vibrantly coloured female i think "oh no, what if it's a sneaker male?!", but the pros around have stated it's a very nice pair with a ripe female and without the same suspicions so i'm sure it's nothing you really do have a nice pair there!

hey marle, you got your pair from biotope also?
medium sized male in the big apisto agassizii red 'wild' tank right?

that was one of the 2 i was considering when i was there
both about same size and similar in coloration
i ended up with mine and i see you got the other!

i'm feeding mine with sera microgran
they do take to it quite readily
and when i gave them a tidbit of sera FD tubifex earlier, they went absolutely bonkers over it.
the male was in an unusual sort of frenzy, rushing to and fro trying to grab at the tubifex pieces

since your fish are largely red based, try going for tetrabits since its the cheapest and strongly enhances red. it's easier to feed than tetra colour pro as well since it's just pellets and not flakes that you have to crush before dropping into the tank...NLS is also an option as it enhances all colours and not just red.

one interesting thing to watch is when your fish eat the pellets. they will take the whole pellet into their mouth, then fan their gills and little bits of pellet powder will come out from the gills. i always found that interesting to watch when i was feeding tetrabits to my first pair of apistos =)

The best food are still live food. Pump them live bbs.

Foods like tetra pro and good for them. If you want to try.. can also feed them ada food.

Currently I am feeding my Apisto ADA Gold 1 & 2, Live bbs and occasionally live brime shirmps.

Yup, bro i got it from c328. They housed it in a very chiu(lousy) tank with yellow murky water. I saw 2 specimens of agassizii there and i chose this piece. I went biotope too! Saw cacas, but they were quite small size! Seriously, i don't know mine is agassizii what type, don't know is red or wild or what? Can enlighten me?

Ok, i will watch the powder come out from the gills soon and update you!

actually i have no idea what constitutes good nutrition staple food for them
they seem to take to my sera foods quite well so i just continue feeding them that
i had fed microgran the past 2 days since i use it as a staple food for all of my tanks
just testing the tubifex and had no idea they liked it so much

maybe they could have been very hungry???

    One question:

Are apistos like luohan or arowana in terms of feeding.

Luohan: Eat until explode, meaning they just eat and eat and eat as long as there is food.

Arowana: Once they are full, they stop.
