Hi all, I had stop this dear hobby of mine for close to 2 years due to work and marriage commitments. It's only recently that I stumbled across a particular shop called "CRS Haven" that started my interest in planted tank again. So here's my feeble comeback attempt. Do feel free to comment.

    size: 1 ft cube tank
    lights: 2 x 9w 6500k bulbs from NA
plants: taiwan moss tied on wire mesh and some local fissiden tied on driftwood
    DIY CO2
lifestock: 1 otto, 1 horn snail, abt 6-7 discoloured cherries from my previous tank.

Think of pasting some oyami (not too sure of spelling) stickers at the back to hide the hang-on filter and the wires. Any other better ideas?

    Many thanks in advance.

It's spelt as "OYAMA". It might be a little troublesome to paste Oyama sticker on the back now that the tank is filled up with water. You could buy some black backing board from Artfriend, or any other stationery shop and place it btween the glass and the filter instead. This way, you get to choose what colour background you're in the mood to look at for the day.

If possible, try to postion the CO2 ladder under the filter so that the return flow can push the CO2 down back down into the tank. Also looks neater.

Thanks for all the recommendations and suggestions. Will try the background thingy. Good idea to place it between the tank glass and the filter.

As for the CO2 ladder, I tried to place it under the flilter flow but the bottom of the ladder sank into the black gravel. Guess I have to have till the next re-scape of my tank.

Thanks bro, just bought a C or D grade CRS today to try it out in my tank.
Read somewhere that CRS don't tend to do well in tanks with hang-on filter.

Besides I'm using DIY CO2 so the concentration can't really be controlled over time. So just try to experiment a bit. I'm prepared for the worst.

Hahahaa..pics not so soon i supposed. The 1 that I posted was abt 1 weeks plus ago. Will try to update pics on month by month basis if I can.

    Anyway, just a little update:
My cherries and oto seem to do well in the tank. But the CRS seem to rush for the filter outflow in the early morning. I presume that it's a lack of O2 or too high a concentration of CO2 as mine is DIY CO2.

Intending to change to a soleniod CO2 today. Also in the process to hunting for a Eden 501 to replace the GEX hang-on filter as recommended by a good old aquaintance (you know who you are ).

Hi all, just a little update on my feeble comback attempt. Tank is slightly more than 1 month old now.

Quite a fair bit of changes made:

    1) filter changed to eden 501
    2) added some magic soil
    3) changed to solenoid CO2 instead of DIY CO2
    4) added abt 9-10 CRS given by a good friend who just gave up the hobby to go overseas - surprisingly 1 female became pregnant 3 days after intoduction to the tank.
    5) Taiwan moss has undergone trimming once.

Also too lazy to remove the little bits of hair algae growing on the glass wall Amount of hair algae has drop considerably due to (just a hunch here) the vibrant growth of the taiwan moss and fissidens.

All comments and critique are welcome.

Congrats! Does your tank has chiller or fan or is it located in an air conditioned room?

Nice tank for crs, they will love it. One thing, if you are using fan, you might face difficulty due to the need to constantly top up water and the water parameters is affected.

did the moss grow out from the mesh that you tied in the first post to what you have now?
or you got more mesh to cover the holes?
    looks great for crs.

    Thanks for the compliment bro.

I'm currently just using a fan and you are right, one of the main difficulty of using fan is the topping up of water and affecting of parameters. So far so good and I'll just keep my fingers cross for now.

PS: Just got back from Taiwan a few days back, brought back some moss like plants from the hilly areas. Got a bit to spare (quantity not much), drop me a pm if you're keen and we'll take it from there.

Hi there, didn't add any more mesh than what you saw in the 1st post. I just let the taiwan moss take it from there. They are able to grow and overlap, thus covering the gaps in between. In fact being a lazy person, I find them growing a bit too fast, had to trim once a few days ago.

    Hope the info helps.

PS: if you need some taiwan moss I can pass you some, just drop me a pm and we'll take it from there.

Wow! Appreciated. Moss from taiwan sounds really good. In fact i am seriously thinking of rescaping my tank. I have quite abit of healthy anchor moss, i can pass you some as well. How about some pictures of the moss from taiwan bro?

Bro Marle, I'll try to take some pics and post them here. But some of the plants have very small petals/fronds. So not sure if I can get a clear shot on them.

Bro Sohbee, I kinda agree with you. The fissidens on DW looks kinda out of place. It's just my own little experiment to see how the fissidens spread on DW. Not meant to be there actually.

Will remove it for my next photoshoot in a month's time.

Thanks for the suggestion, do keep them coming.
