Thinking of starting a new 2ft planted tank.. Need Advice on equipments..

Trying to be budget here because still a student
Hopefully can build a low tech planted tank

Tank - Ocean Free 60x30x36 $18 - reasonable quality right?
Filter - Hydor External Filter 10 $65 - sufficient? how about efficiency of power?
Light - 55w light from C328 $28 - enough? too hot?

IMO, if you are going for a low tech/maintenance/light tank, your lighting is too much for your tank.

What's the flowrate of your filter? Generally, 3x-4x of the total volume/hour is adequate.

A 36W PL lights should be sufficient for a beginner's 2ft tank....

Do more reading in AQ & you will find all the answers. Avoid setting up a tank in a rush, without understanding the requirements of the plants/fishes.

oceanfree tank is decent enough and the price usually abit cheaper
try to be careful and check the tank 1st before you bring it home as not all the units will be in good condition

the hydor prime 10 filter should be sufficient. its around 300L/hr rated and comes with media/hoses and everything if i remember
its quite a good filter brand. the wattage rating if i remember is a little higher compared to other canister filters of a similar flowrate but it shouldn't be anything significant enough to make a dent in the electricity bill
and for $65 you are getting a new or 2nd-hand one? if its new, i think the price is a steal!
i haven't checked out their prices lately but 65 bucks for a new prime 10 should be considered cheap

55w abit too much for a low tech tank. try 36w instead
you can even go for 24w
i suggest you plan out what plants you intend to be growing, then base your light requirement from there rather than decide on the light directly and then only find out later that it can't give you the results with the plants you want

also try to get at least a small cooling fan.
a cooler water temperature will benefit almost any plant

and for low tech, if you are going for rooted plants, especially heavy root-feeders, try to invest in a good substrate.
it gives you much less problems later on

And what is the ehiem equivalent of hydor prime 10 ? npt much difference in quality right? except ehiem is better i guess

You are going for 2 ft tanks. Do check out the forums. Many bros are giving away free tanks and stands You may want to check them out if you are on budget. You may wan to consider 2x 18w T5 lighting set. Better in my opinion.

anyway no warranty may probably explain the lower price
eheim equivalent size should be about a or 2213 or 2232

eheim is a well-known and very popular brand in singapore and in this forum
my personal opinion is that hydor is pretty darn good as well, just that its not as widely used here and parts abit harder to find

moss and tenellus will grow okay without needing that much light
then it depends on whats your "nice tall plants at the bank"
