    Advisable to reuse 3 months old substrate?

    after fiddling around with a small tank for 3mths, i'm planning to go for a larger tank size. however, as my substrate (gex - red package) in the tank is bearly 3mths, can i reuse after i wash it?

    don't wash it, you can just reuse it

    I suggest covering it with a fresh layer of substrate. Like that will prevent clouding of the water.

    Actually it's the old dirt, mulm, etc that I'm worried about.

    Usually I use a fresh layer of gravel to cover them up from giving them even a chance to mess things up...

    Reuse it and why not. There's bacteria in it and save you time and money for BB colonizing.
