    Hi,

Can Jap Hairgrass do well in a low-tech setup?

I am planning to make a lawn of Jap Hairgrass, on onyx sand. Anyone has success experience on this combination?

If my memory serves me right. I used to have it on my low tech 2ft tank with lapis as substrate, complemented by monster roots. Remember my lights were PL then... forgot how much wattage it consumes but the depth of my tank was quite low. Takes quite long for it to propergate though.

I think so, I grow it before on lapis sand without base fert, low light, no CO2, no liquit fert. It grow extrimly slow, even after half a year doesn't seem to be propagating maybe it does but very slow.

I take it out and replant it on ADA with high light and CO2 and it grow very fast.

Japanese hairgrass will do well at lower temperatures. It will grow nicer. Of course with the other norms such as lighting, substrate and others as well.

my japanese hairgrass is growing in my nano low-tech tank with Gex substrate. it's definitely slower than in my high tech tank of course, but after a couple of months i do see some limited spreading, and it's definitely growing in length

So low temp is also a requirement to do well in low-tech setup?

low temperature is not a requirement per se... its more of like a preffered state.

Seems like Jap Hairgrass likes GeX.

    Anyway, I have gotten 3 x 8kg today.

My experience wif Jap Hairgrass is that it propagates easily. But it slowly started to float up... probably due to depleting base fert, or my jumbo SAEs disturbing it continunously.

BTW, its on lapis and base fert...

Finally... all Jap Hairgrass are gone. How i wish i had kept some of those floating ones, and i dun have to look around for it... Haiz...
