plant leaves keep sticking out of water surface

i just bought a new plant and the plant leaves keep sticking out of the water surface.im afraid that the plant will die as the leaves seems to melt away .what should i do to prevent the leaves fro sticking out.

Must be quite a tall plant. Any idea which?
If new leaves are growing from bottom, then should be no problem the older leaves drying up. That is assuming it is a rosette plant like sword plants.

No idea which plant you are referring to. It should be a stem plant, and most aquatic stem plants are actually marsh plants, etc. i.e. they live around the water line...I supposed that should be okay. If you want them to grow underwater, focused on increasing the lights and frequently trimming to train them to go sideways..
