these BBA are clung onto the lower part (near the roots) of the moss, i have a few corys but proof no avail to the invasion of the BBA on my java moss. The Corys dun really comsume the BBA for food even though i never feed them. I've tried rubbing the BBA off the java moss leaves but in the end pulling out lot of java moss from the driftwood. The java moss have quite a number of emergents (very long java moss protuding), does these emergents cause the cory's inabilty to eat the BBA ? or should i prune them short like from 2 inchs to 3/4 inchs ? there are also some hair aglae tried pulling them out be they still keep on growing, i do freqent water changes like 30% water change every wk. Does CO2 + strong light cause the boom of these algaes ? i have a filter system filtering the tank.

hope someone can help me the lower part of the java moss seems to be rotting.

cory's do not eat algae. and for that matter. only starving SAE will eat bba.

only good algae eaters are malayan, yamato shrimp. farlowellas , sae, oto's and american flag fish

Brownish, you mean? Otos will take care of that.

do you have enuf plants to soak up the bba and hair algae ? if you have, increase co2 output to get the plants to thrive. hornwort and frogbits are very effective for me. once the water condition stabilises, i remove them and i never have the problem since. don't worry too much about algae ... i once had them growing wild and even on those styrofoam backdrop ... have some patience, maintain lush plant growth, normal feedback, don't add any more fish and soon your plants will overtake the algae.

i find this happens all the time, especially when the moss cuts off circulation to the deeper layers
you'll have to do some trimming

darrel, if you're referring to the red short stubby tuft on the moss, only growing on one side of the veins, I think those are part of the reproductive thingy. Later you'll find long thin stalks coming out with a greenish/orange "fruit" on one end.

    Quite sure it isn't algae.

I found some Brush Algae (green kind) on my Riccia, make me cannot sleep at night.
I spend two hours using a tweezer removing strand by strand, wahhh back breaking la.....
I already have SAE and some malayan shrimps, any good recommendations on what else to buy to clean up the Brush Algae mess?? thanks

Hatchet..I don't think otos can solve your type of algae as their mouth is not design for eating this type of algae and hence won't be of much help. Maybe you can try yamatoes but be careful as there are reports from people that they tend to eat riccia. Another thing you can try is to make sure your SAE does not get any food from your daily feeding..starve them and hope they eat those algae as they are great at nibbling algae.

Darrel, this type I kena before, shortly before I decided to rip out everything and start over with new gravel, fert, plants, etc ! []

are you overloaded on fish-mass? is your filter working properly? are you over-feeding?
