When they are stress or new to the enviroment then the hatchet will jump out of the tank.

It'll be best to either have a tight cover without any gaps for the tank, or at least lower the water level.

The switching on and off of the lights will also cause them to jump. It is best to have a cover. I lost 6 of mine ... all jumped out when the lights went off.

woah, thanks alot for the advises. Seems like the hatchet is not really suitable for my setup. Was looking for mid-top swimmers and thought that these hatchets look really interesting. Will keep a look out for some other species
