Myles,
Maybe you can try using ADA soil. I have know a few bettas keepers who used it.
Alternatively you can try using Sera Peat and stuff. (Need to be monitored)
Cheers

I'm using ADA aquasoil to achieve a pH of 7. Or if your using normal lapis, you could use CO2 to bring down the pH. From http://www.ibc-smp.org/species/macrostoma.html it states that suitable pH ranges from 6.5 - 7.5. Some of the mac breeders here maintain an even lower pH of say 4.5 - 6.3. But however my pair did manage to spawn at a pH of 7 but the male swallowed the eggs when mouthbrooding. Which I made a mistake of feeding them.
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
Hi one and all
thank you to everyone who has responede to my request for help with my Betta Macrostoma tank set up.
Myles
I use silica sand, and my tank is heavly planted, the ph is around 6.5. remember to keep the ph constant or the fish will get stressed out.
