I just rescaped my tank 2 weeks ago. The plants are growing slowly due to the exhausted base fertilizer.

    Phang,

Initially, I set the chiller to 25, but found the plants growing too slowly. Now I set to 26, so the temperature ranges between 26-28 degree.

    Hi Kingpin,

Nice to have met you at Teo's during the setup.

I was wondering that at 25 degrees, the plants should grow better right? Was there a significant difference when you turn up the temperature to 26? If I recall correctly, you are using a RA680?

    Regards,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi benny,

Nice to meet you too. Hope you have settled your tank problem and started enjoying the hobby.

Regarding the temperature, I left at 25 degrees only for about 2 weeks to experiment whether the lower temperature will boost the growth of the xmoss which has been growing very, very slowly. IMO, not much difference between 25 and 26 degrees. Moreover, the 2 weeks duration might be too short to notice any significance in growth.

kingpin i really like your tank. its a kind of 2 sided tank where there is a frontview on both sides, the front and right. i guess its partly because of the empty space on the right in your previous photo.
not to mention the tank is colourful! blue, red, green and yellow....
your fishes brings out the contrast from the plants. wished i could do as good a job as you. []

I am still waiting for my moss to grow and my glosso to carpet. It is really taking a long time. Thank you all for your encouragement [] .

    hello Kingpin,

slow plant growth might not be due to infertile substrate.

if your substrate is old, it wouldn't be so exhausted yet. base ferts don't get used up that quickly. moreover, you have quite a number of stem plants which depend more on the water column for ferts, you should follow Tom Barr's "estimative index". check it out! it may boost growth a lot. even for the rosette plants.

    hope this helps

    Wee,
5x2x2 feet. Got the root from a friend.

    Wahboy,
I just read up the "estimative index" by Tom Barr. Will experiment increasing my nutrients level.

Nice... can't wait to see it when the plants have grown out.

Good start! Wait till the moss covers the driftwood and the substrate gets carpeted... will be a sight to savour. The school of tetras have a lot of space to swim. Great!
