The AQ goes to Bangkok thread that just randomly popped up for no reason (despite not having new posts) reminded me of something i've wanted to ask for a few days now, but keep forgetting to due to exams.

I'll be going to Bangkok over the weekend and would like to catch a glimpse of their local aquarium scene. Besides the famed Chatuchak market, is there anywhere else i can go to take a look? Also, is the aquatic section in Chatuchak hard to find? Don't want to go all the way there and end up not being able to fine it

    Thanks in advance!

Got this url, check it out

    http://www.bangkok-city.com/skytrain.htm#Sites

    Victory MonumentN3Chatuchak Weekend Market

Buy a tourist skytrain pass(cheaper and more economical than single trip) just show the counter staff your passport will do

easy to find, once alight from skytrain, there be a row of metal fences, the market is just behind, walk around and you be able to find the entrance, one on each side

I actually checked out KITTI discus farm as well when I was there 2 years back, but you need a taxi driver who can read english to get you there, most farms are on the outskirts of bangkok city

Most discus frams are closed to public, the taxi driver actually helped us call the farm and chat with the staff to allow us to go in.

They let you see the main tanks where they stock and retail adult discus (priced in USD), but the breeding area is off limits, the staff actually told us he can arrange to ship to singapore if we keen, but there a minimum purchase amount (think it was around USD$500)

If you just want to view, no worth the taxi fare, cause the staff shun us when he hear we just viewing

the plant and fish varities in chatuchak should be more than sufficient to occupy your time, set aside one day for the visit there. You probably wouldn't have enough time to walk through the whole market in one day

Agreed on the suggestions to visit the LFS in Chatuchat Market. I've been fish shopping in Bangkok several years back and the fishes in their LFS isn't as "exciting" as those in Chatuchat.

Kitti's farm is still within Bangkok and it's actually quite near to the central tourists' area. It seems far because of the traffic congestion. Just tell the taxi driver, Soi Charoen Nakhorn. You have to take a very short walk through a small lane to reach there. The discus are mostly nice and treat the place like it's an aquarium or museum to view & appreciate. I would advise extreme caution about buying fish from him. I have had a very bad experience (It's not about dead fish).

Can alway ask the LFS there to pack in styroform boxes and ship them to singapore,

you can hand carry small fishes like bettas, fancy guppies out of thailand

its at changi airport that you going to have issue

there are some accessories that are seldom found here, like compressor type air pump, can supply up to 10-20, 2 feet tank with one unit

and a wide range of canister filters as well

the fish medication worth the deal, most in concentrated liquid or powdered form

well i'm back! spent half a day at Chatuchak before my sisters nagged at me to go to Platinum mall instead, so didn't get to fully make the rounds... sad to say i didn't find any zebra/tiger otos...i did bring back 3 threadfin rainbows though. i know they're available here, but from what i see in the 3 LFS that i spotted them at, all are males and none are females...so i took my chances and bought 3 pieces that looked like females. 1 is definitely a female while the other 2 might be subdominant males...not too sure. i'll put them in a tank and we'll see how things develop =) i can always get beautiful males here from the 3 LFS i see them at. hopefully i can form at least a trio (1 male 2 females). in terms of bringing them back, i didn't handcarry. put them in a mineral water bottle (1.5li kind) and packed them in the luggage as recommended in another thread. these guys are tough little critters and survived the whole sunday in the bag, all of sunday night and monday in the mineral water bottle and the plane trip home in the luggage. they're acclimitizing now in preparation for release into the tank!

pictures will be posted later when i download them from my camera. not so many fish pictures but quite a few other pets =)

Most of the time, it's not about photography skills (Or the lack of it). It's about reliving the moment of discovery, joy or _____(Enter your choice of emotion) and of course, sharing this feeling with others.
