    Hi all

Everytime i go to a LFS, and see plecos with respective L numbers, I almost need to go home and search for it on planetcatfish. It's a complete waste of time. Is there any book that I can bring to LFS and refer the book at the LFS. I need to know the maximum length, diet etc. and Pics of course

    Here's a few English ones.

There are also Chinese/Japanese ones if you can read them.

    Here's one from Japan..

    Some Chinese ones..

This is the second Volume from Wiser Publications. There is a fist volume that is more text base with information.

From a rival publication, Fish Magazine, which is a translation of the German publication.

    Cheers,

I think the Aqualog can be purchased from good fishshops. As for the rest, only some shops carry them. Kinokuniya sometimes carry the Japanese ones.

If you go to NKS or Fish Haven, they both have a copy of the AquaLog in the shops. So you can refer to them when you are there.

I would prefer the Datz book to Aqualog. Seems to be a better book in terms of identification and associated background information.

Ah thanks, thats what I need, more background information on their care, etc

Will head down to Borders and/or Kinokuniya when I have the time to see if I can get them...

I think your trip down to Borders or Kino would prove futile.

On husbandry and care, the series of two books named "The Gladiators in the Aquarium - South American Plecos" in post #3 might serve your purpose. As Benny had pointed out, vol.1 of the two-part series contains more information on species maintenance, breeding etc. The titles "Endless Plecostomus" are mere translations of the Datz volume.

    Here's a peek of what's inside vol. 1

From what I know, a Vol. 3 is in preparation as we speak, hopefully bearing new insights to the pleco keeping hobby.

All those benny posted in #3 are non-English.

There isn't an english version now for Vols 1 & 2. As for Vol. 3, we'll just have to wait and see.

DATZ is reportedly more "accurate" than Aqualog.
However Aqaulog has more pictures of the variations of specific species.
They also have good pictures of the genitalia papillia of the fish.
I reckon the best choice, for english, is to get both copies.
One for the species variation pictures and the other for accuracy.
Alternately you can get the Aqualog one alone and verify with the various pleco forums.
I'm sure someone in one of the forums will be able to confirm the accuracy of the information.

PS I cant rea chinese for peanuts so I cannot comment on them versus the english publications.
