Season for Altum Angel?

Recently I found C238 selling adult size Altum.
I thought Altum only sell during Aug and Sep.
Are they wild or farm breed..

Documented breeding of Pterophyllum Altum are rare, and a good certainty that it has not happened here. It it has happened, for sure the breeders are keeping it mighty quiet.

Rumours have abound that altums have been bred in Taiwan; but no concrete news have emerged of farm breeding of altums.

In Germany, Horst Linke's home breds are well-documented. As well, there are experts on finarama.com, the authoritative website on altums (and angels in general), who have bred altums.

As for where these altums are emerging, I would not know for sure. My friend, an LFS owner, rang me last week to ask if I would like some from his latest batch. So, obviously, they are still coming in via air shipment, even this late in the year.

Perhaps they took the time to QT them properly before exporting. It would be great to have this batch.

C328? QT? I doubt so. It does not make sense for them to QT, it makes more business sense to let the consumer take the risk.

According to the owner I spoke to at Yun Feng in Tampines, he have been recieving shipment since August and expect to have more coming in till the end of Dec.

And yes, those that came in during August / September tends to be smaller.

i've been told by Fish Haven that the season usually starts in August and ends in December. the larger fish usually come in towards the end of the season apparently. i'm crossing my fingers for my tank to be ready to catch next season!

Yes heckels. Last season they have some large ones that the owner told me were meant to go to Japan but due to last minute cancellation, ended in their place instead. Now I regret not getting those. Hopefully they have something like this again this year.

Records have shown Altum angels occur in the upper Rio Negro basin in Brazil, the Rio Negro drainage in Venezuela, Laja Vendita in Venezuela and many parts of the Rio Orinoco and its tributaries from Colombia to Venezuela.

Rainy season in the Amazonia region roughly runs from mid Dec to mid May. Fish collecting during this period are usually not as productive because of widespread flooding and difficulty in locating them.

Hence, nothing really surprising if they're available during Aug and Sept.
