frogs raised or kept in capitivity will lose its toxicity as in the wild. these frogs will look for a certain ant species for its toxins.. the more ants the frog eats. the more toxic it becomes..

so lets say a frog that is moved to captivity.. it will lose its toxin once changed to a more human friendly diet such as mealworms and crickets

oh! before i forget..for the apisto fans around, be glad we have Biotope! that place is rather bad for apisto enthusiasts...after 4+ hours there, i only saw a grand total of 3 pairs of apistos...2 cacatuoides and 1 colourless one i couldn't identify. nowhere near the standard of even the worst pairs i've seen locally.

That is correct...BUT!! Lets say a collector collected frogs today and decided to sell them on the market tomorrow..then what? The thing is you never really know how long these frogs have been in captivity...
i need to take back the poin that the poison permeates your skin..because i was thinking of something else...but if you have scratches or didn't wash a certain part of hand properly..then that becomes a problem.. at least for you..haha..
I guess on one hand it is probably safe enough...but i still wouldn't do it because when you get caught its a pain not only in the @$$ its also a pain in the $$$$$$$$$ haha...

Do they change to less attractive colors when they lose they toxin? I mean without toxin they're pretty much defenseless right, don't want to go advertising themselves with those bright colors right?

Nope not that i know... should be still the same...actually the bright colours deter predators..as in predators in the wild already recognise not to eat them from the colour..so if you're harmless and have colour then it is actually in your favour... this is also why some animals use mimicry.. it works..

last time i went there a couple of years back, the planted shop is quite impressive, got a lot of cryptocorynes and some other "rare" plants.
quite good shopping place for plants.
