What plants to get for my 2 (l) x 18 (h) x 12 (w)?

Hi All,

i had just setup my gravel and have all equipments ready. the only think lacking now are the plants. Because i am new to this planted tank thingy, i hope u all can recomend me or give ideas, on what is the best plants for a 24" (l) x 18" (h) x 12" (w) tank. Any ideas about aquascaping are also wellcome. Thanks in advance

eh, you got any base fert under the gravel or not?

Yes, he does. CO2 with solenoid, 2x36W lighting (I think).

ya i have everything like what vinz had mentioned (thanks) . base fertilizer about 1.5" in front, sloping to 4" at the back of the tank. + 1" gravel to support the base fertilizer across.

so can advise what types of plants to get? i will be going to NA to get my plants after work. thanks

Plants? Most should do. I would only suggest avoiding those big Echinodorus species. You tank is 18" high, so should be able to accomodate those lallang-looking plants Vallesneria or Saggitaria.

Perhaps I am wrong. But I think a small tank would look better with plants having small leaves. This won't make the tank look too small.

u shld go havelock/Teo/ah pek for plants.. IMO, NA dun have a wide enuff selection of plants... wat is yr total light wattage? u want high or low maintenance plants.. u can consider glosso, APP for foregrd if u have enuff light... consider using stemmed plants if u r able to maintain them, rosette plants like echinodorus will grow too hug for yr tank... if u want some of a lower maintenance then u can have cryptos for yr mid grd

In general... stem plants grow faster and need more trimming. They also tend to better at taking nutrients out of the water, so it's usually good to have at least one stand of fast growing stem plant to suck up excess nutrient in the water.

Some rosette/non-stem plants:
- Blyxa Japonica.
- Cryptocoryne, Anubias, Java Fern - these do better in shaded under taller plants or in the darker corners of the tank.
- Lotus - can get large.
- Vallisneria, Sagittaria Subulata - but can spread fast and require frequent trimming.
- Java Moss.

Hi roning,

Go visit Pet Safari in Simei Mall (next to Changi General Hospital). They have quite a number of good planted tanks there. Viewing them will give you some inspiration and ideas how each will look like in water. Bring along an aquatic plant catalogue if you have one and ID those that you want and the ID will be useful when you visit Teo.
