You should let the tank cycle first, don't put any fauna yet.
IMHO the best filter so far is Eheim, quite and reliable, but expensive![]()

Do take the time to understand about cycling the tank (nitrogen cycle) first. Here are some excellent pointers to fishless cycling.

hydor prime 10 cost around 70 -80 brand new or get hydor prime 20 which is around 80 -90
canister filter
not too bad a filter
Eheim 2213 is about the same price as Hydor prime 10. I prefer Eheim though because easy to get replacement part and especially because it is very reliable. I bought 10 years old second hand 2217 at very cheap price, and it is run much quiter than my brand new Jebao. After that I start slowly replacing my filter with Eheim.
i dont think you can get 2213 nowadays unless it is old stock. now they are selling the ecco, pro and pro 2
i bought eheim pro 2222 for my 2ft tank as i have a spare 2222 motor head, trays, canister, you can also buy the ecco 2232 or 2234 for you 2ft tank, they costs >$120 so it depends on you.
i am using jebo 835.. dun have that big budget to go for eheim yet.. maybe when i m more experience with bigger tanks.. i'll go for branded..
i just bought it a week or two.. and the lfs mentioned the warranty is 6mths to a year..it is still quiet now.. i bought it for only 80 bucks.
thank for all reply....ya was planning to get a new and cheaper canister as well.....may i know what flow rate i must look out for for a 2ft tank?(rem i read it somewhere in the forum but cannot find it again.
think the overhead filter i have not very good.....think it cause a lot of sudden flow of water into the tank.....still find means and ways to solve that problem

I've used HOT filters (Eheim Liberty series) for my 2ft planted tanks with some success.
If you are worried about agitating the water too much. Just make sure that the water level is a couple of centimeters to an inch above the return path of the filter.![]()

Sheesh.... work is really keeping me away from my hobby

Try getting the Atman CF-800 like mine. I use it in a planted tank, and although the flowrate seems overkill for a 2ft, remember that dense plant growth will impede a lot of the water flow.
The Liberty HOT are, imho, only suitable for 1.5ft and below. =x
ok end up getting a 2 month old Ehim 2213 from another forum.....ok fliter thing done....
Now for CO2, i get a packet of AZOO soil from C328, which polyyart claim that it will produce CO2 for a period of 12month...does that mean CO2 ok? I notice that my 2 week plant starting to turn brown.....any suggestion
CO2 producing soils? not really sure if that really work
I would rather you buy Seachem Excel and dose every 2 other day if your tank is heavily planted.
Read this and it will help you understand CO2

hi thank have just brought a bottle of Seachem Excel for my 2ft tank.....
also i have brought a bottle of Seachem florish....it that enough fetilizer for my plant?
hi guy.....
i have read up the forum to put the ehim 2213 rainbar horizontal at the bottom with the hole facing the glass but i notice it still causing some movement at the surface.
And my neon that swim near it will get shoot up .......it my outlet flow too strong?
ok thank will go check out Petmart to see whether they sell this or not...
The 4 Yamato Prawn i purchase has been chaging shell....it that a good sign? it been only 2 week and i saw 4 empty le....
