hi there. i think you made the plants look too uniform, the scape abit un-natural, try to use less varity of flora but more in quantity for the beginning stage, spread yr plants abit more i think u planting the whole chunk at one location thats not very good.Try to add a focal point in your tank as well, right now your tank nothing to focus at. Another point to add since you are using magic soil why not plant in some hairgrass, e.tenllus or some glosso in the foreground, this will make your tank look more natural. I am also just learning so please correct me if i am wrong. haha!!

    happy planting..

i agree i dun have a specific theme.. i just plant it as it comes lor.. i m still learning how to "plant" the plants.. i have a hard time planting. I'll usually take out the plants sponge at the root and plant the plants individually but the gravel is not "hard" enough to hold on to the plants.. yup,, i m trying to get hairgrass.. if can't .. i'll trim the plants on the foreground to make it shorter and spread it across the front. sorry.. i m still blur when comes to plants name..

hi edwin, it's a good start. I think you can try looking around parks, trees and get inspirations on 'designing' the tank. Most importantly, have some hardscapes to help you break the monotony of the current tank. Driftwoods are very useful, Tie moss on them. have tall plants planted behind them, etc.

Try get some contours with the substrate as i can see that the substrate is kinda flatten out making the tank looks very even out and uniform. Have hills

experiment with some foreground plants, as i felt it is very interesting and fulfilling to see them spread and carpet. Try some easy ones like app, e.ten, moss?

    Good luck and have fun!

When you everything lined up in a uniform manner, its is difficult to create some sort of depth. My first nano tank is "well" quite bad, because i haven't extensive reading and started the project.

You could read up articles on golden rules, focus point as well as get hold of the ada 2006 aquascaping handbook to get more information. Aqua eden is a pretty good web resource if you are interested.
