Just purchase a Atman MH light. The startup noise is really loud. Is this normal?

I'm thinking of going back to the shop to change it. Any other brands that are quieter?

Probably you got yourself a magnetic ballast to run the lamp.
Try checking for loose connection. Make sure all tight and it should not buzz so much.

A good ballast with proper connection usually does not buzz. You can replace them with electronic ones for quiet and slightly more efficient work.

I'm using metal ballasts for my gisemann MH and only a "click" sound and very soft buzz for 5 secs. Not sure about Atman metal ballast tho. However, side track abit, I did asked for e-ballast for my gisemann MH when I purchase and the boss told me that e-ballast will lose it power after 1 year and the MH will not fully perform as well and advised me not to. Wonder if this is true?

Replaced the magnetic ballast with a Philips e-ballast. Quieter, and the light goes to full brightness a lot quicker too... thanks for the tip...

eballast would not loose power. though more expensive, they are more efficient compared to metal core ballast.
