I currently have the "Cardinal" Sulawesi shrimp species. So far, I've tried putting one of each species of Sulawesi shrimps in my main tank (not jar), because I wanted to have a collection of Sulawesi shrimps. It appears that all the other Sulawesi shrimps died within a few weeks or so, except for the "Cardinal" ones which had zero deaths, they even continued to breed. I'm not sure where I went wrong that the other species died faster. But, I think I should be doing the right thing for my "Cardinal" Sulawesi shrimps.

Firstly, I use fine coral sand. I heard from many people that this increases the pH level of the water, which is great for Sulawesi shrimps. I've seen many people on this forum complaining that their Sulawesi shrimps never survive past a dew days, and upon seeing the pictures of their tanks, most of them use the brown coloured gex soil, which is mainly for CRS, as the pH is low, it's something not good for the Sulawesi shrimps.

Also, I added coral chips, which was recommended to me by the Midori uncle (bought my Sulawesi shrimps from Midori) , to be put into the tanks with Sulawesi shrimps to further increase the pH.

At night, I sleep with air-con so the temperature of the water goes as low as 23 degrees but in the day when the air-con is off it goes as high as 29 or 30 degrees.

Hope those bros here who keep Sulawesi shrimps find this useful.

ok...I went down to Pet Mart today, and I've confirmed that the two little shrimps in the glass jar at the counter ARE Opae Ula, going for 80 bucks for the pair, including the jar and wadever thats inside the jar (e.g. rocks and sand with algae)...

Finally managed to find a shop that's actually selling this species of shrimp in Singapore...still considering whether I should buy them...

    What do u guys think?

Wow you have got them??!!! They are indeed interesting shrimps and rare. However, the price is very steep for me. No problem for those who are willing to spend that kind of money. For me, it is beyond my budget.

It seems like cyberkid u have been looking for it for months, and now that you have found it, you are not going to get it? Or are you just not confident?

Opae Ula confirmed sighted at Petmart. 8 red notes per pair. large jar sitting directly opposite the counter, sand in the base and a rock with algae growing on it in the middle.

I think I'll try to get a friend returning from the States to Hand carry a breeding colony from Fukubonsai back for me, not willing to pay for a pair here.

The shop who has Opae Ula for sale now in sg is CRS Haven, a shop in Tampines. They currently also have a roadshow stall at Orchard Central near Cold Stone creamery. The Opae Ula are sold under the name "wonder shrimp", in plastic and glass vases and jars with removable lids with a hole in it for ventilation, and evaporation.

They're sold as zero-maintainence eco-systems, but you can open the lids and feed them to be more "humane" to them. =)

Thanks for the tip, might pay a visit to this stall at Orchard Central to have a look. Hopefully they're not insanely expensive.

depends on how you would define "insane".. the price of the eco-dome with the opae ula is "insane".. (last heard was SG$900+?)

this one.. is "affordable", just like our HDB flats.. HAHAHA..

    Re: "Micro-lobster" available in Singapore?

$900+ ? And I thought people complaining that pairs being sold at Petmart in the past for $80? was excessive. Anyway, I'll have a look for myself, because I've seen those Ecosphere kits or something similar locally before, at affordable prices below $100 or so with a number of these Opae Ula in them. This was many many years ago however and yes, those weren't Cherry Shrimp. I always wondered how an animal can live in an enclosed habitat for that long.

    Re: "Micro-lobster" available in Singapore?

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! The Ecosphere is a death trap. The shrimps will prematurely die due to starvation. If you see habitats with just sand and a sea fan, that is a slow death coffin for these Halocaridina Rubra, aka Opae‘ula. Just found the best designs and are sustainable at www.ohmyopae.com. They really care about these guys! Before purchasing any of these habitats, contact or check out these guys.
