if u are referring to those crabs above the aro tanks. they are geosesarma notophorum , common name mandarin crab
I saw these cute crabs at C328, they are going for $5 each, in one of the plastic pet containers with a piece of driftwood (closest to the brine shrimp / daphnia / glass shrimp) shelves in the middle of the store.
Anyone have an idea what species this is? I asked but the uncle didn't know what kind of crabs they were.
Are they freshwater or brackish? They don't have paddles and seem to be a terrestrial variety but I am not sure.
The closest picture I can find online is this one but its a bit small.
Being sold as Dwarf Red Claw crabs at www.aquariumfish.net (picture from the site)

Cute little crabbies, largest there was about 2cm smallest being around 1.5cm body alone excluding feet and pincers.
They may be Sesarma Bidens, can anyone confirm?
This link has several good pics and info http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Bug,%20R...law%20Crab.htm
Claws seem equally developed in both sexes (assuming not all there are male) some are almost totally black, with no red or very little red in the claws. There is very little to no red colouration on their bodies either.
Anyone know what species this is, and their requirements?
Thanks in advance crab gurus!

they are actually below the Aro tanks on the ground, below where the packets of moss are usually hung up for sale.
Yeah initially I was thinking they were geosesarma notophorum, but they don't look much like the pictures I looked at online, I'll try to get some pictures of the crabs for a confirmed ID.
Hi there
Nearly nothing to see on that pic (behind the link I don't see any crab.
There are shwon some Pseudosesarma moeschi and maybe Pseudosesarma crassimanum. This link has several good pics and info http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Bug,%20R...law%20Crab.htm
We have a species database here http://www.panzerwelten.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=3 but in German only. I let it translate to english but that could need a few days.Anyone know what species this is, and their requirements?
Pseudosesarma ("Red Thai crab") need an aquaterrarium with one or more real land parts where they can dig their burrows and a water part either. In a 60 cm tank You can hold at maximum one male with two females – since they are social animals they should be kept in groups.
Cheerio, BEASTIE ;-)
CRABS, Crayfish, Shrimp, Land hermits, Mussels & Snails, Dragons, Snakes and more in some 40 tanks
Hey thanks beastie! I was hoping you'd chime in, I'll get some pics up tomorrow, I have 5 of these little crabbies now.
Very nice multi-level scaping you have there in your pictures! I am housing 5 individuals in a 40cm cube at the moment, they seem to be doing well, and are burrowing all over the place. I will look at getting a larger tank for them, but so far no signs of aggression.
Have you had any luck breeding these crabs?
Ok here are some pics of the actual crabs, hopefully they will be enough for a positive ID.
I am also wondering if there are perhaps 2 species of crab here...

Hi Fuzzy
Thx!
That would be good – or better: You have to separate because You HAVE indeed two species.I am housing 5 individuals in a 40cm cube at the moment, they seem to be doing well, and are burrowing all over the place. I will look at getting a larger tank for them, but so far no signs of aggression.
The lighter one with more red and the very white scissor fingers is Metasesarma aubryi, a very terrestrial crab of the family Sesarmidae.
The other ones I don't see clear enough but that should be Pseudosesarma moeschi.
P. moeschi yes, here is a report of that: http://www.panzerwelten.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=712Have you had any luck breeding these crabs?![]()
M. aubryi is far more terrestrial – living near freshwater streams – than the Pseudosesarma and not that aggressive. You can keep 'em in an small terrarium with just a little dish with freshwater (!) but usualyy the really flee from water (except sometimes rain). They only go the sea for releasing their larvae (which need brackish water).
Pseudosesarma are true mangrove crabs and need a real land part and a big water part either. The males are very territorial and fight if there is not enough space and not enough hiding places.

Thanks for the confirmation, I'll try to get shots of the darker colored crabs so you can have a look.
I'll separate them at once.
That's great for the crabs, THX :-)
