    hi,

i just got myself a CO2 tank last thurs and have been racking my brains about how to achieve optimum circulation of CO2 in my 20cm cube tank which i use eden501. ya, i know this is a very small tank so i shouldnt be worried about circulation and not having the optimum CO2 level in the tank, but im kiasu so just keep playing around with the setup.

then i thought, why not just let the filter suck up the bubbles from the diffuser? so i place the inlet directly around 1cm above the diffuser and suck up most if not all the bubbles coming out. at first its 3bps so quite a lot of bubbles got suck up so its belching like crazy. then i turn to 1bps, then very little belching of gas, only occasionally, most of the time no bubbles coming out of outlet. does this mean no airlock? but if i shake the cannister, some air will still be driven out. also , what is the air discharge thing in eden501 for? does it prevent airlock and is this a common feature for cannister filter?

I have not tried this before, but I do remember reading somewhere that it is not advisable to feed air into the filter.

    According to Eden website information:

"A special internal circuit enables any trapped air to be completely discharged so that the filter will run smoothly and quietly."

However, I think this is more to protect the propeller from damaged by the trapped air rather then for consistent air-discharge as in for your case, the CO2.

I used the same method. Feeding CO2 from the intake tube into the cannister, hoping it will diffuse the CO2 and sending out the CO2 rich water. But after running it for a few months, I can say that the diffusing is not what I expected. The CO2 will be trapped inside the filter, maybe a little bit CO2 is diffused. Then when too much CO2 fills within the cannister, the CO2 gushes out, whereby you will suddenly see many bubbles rush out from the outlet.

But I failed to test the KH and PH of the water, thus can really proof it aren't a viable method.

I have since decommissioned this tank.
