Hi bro,
You have 3 hang on filters?

Good looking scape and L333. The golden stripes variant. One of mine friend have similar ones.![]()

Is that some clay gravel you are using? Once they break down or when your plecos dig in at times. You are going to get one cloudy tank.

the substrate issue was the second thing that caught my eye too (first was of course your nice L333s)... won't your plecos stir up the substrate quite a bit, hence clouding up your tank? most pleco keepers go for either sand, gravel or bare bottom. do share with us your experience in using magic soil as a pleco tank substrate.

i do observe such scenario... but what the heck... cannot chage liao...
but looks nice as the dark substrate brings out the plecos' colour![]()

haha maybe you can try black quartz next time! i know someone who glues lapis sand to the bottom of his L27C tank...

One month ago, setup a 3ft tank using small gravel with wood and ketapang leaves to bring down the pH of the water.
Within one month I lost all 9 pieces of L260 inside. Super heartache. Do you guys have this problem?
In the past, I've been using soil. But because of the breakdown issue, I switched to gravel.

i saw many people here used something like holland sand for plecos... if i am not mistaken![]()

Valice, my setup is also a 3ft gravel and black quartz tank with wood and ketapang leaves, but so far only experienced 1 painful pleco death in a LDA33, the rest of my plecos did not have any difficulty staying alive. My other plecos are LDA63, L14, L137, L002, L19, and L007, sizes all around 3 inches i think. hopefully i'm not drifting too far off from the original thread.

the soil did stir a bit but clear off fast, after saw valice post i think i better change the substrate to play safe.
should i top up sand on top the soil or syphon out bit by bit every water change(got no more spare tank to house my pleco). What do you guys suggest?
i feed them on tetra monster pellet,NLS spectrum thera+A and some time japanese cucumber(Dont know whats the proper name)

sorry to hear about your loss...
L260 is from Tapajos and live comfortably in 7+ pH water. That might have been the problem...especially if your tank went below 6.
if the same batch (control) as Genes' and his is doing ok, you could rule out shipment stress, other ailments suffered during shipping.
Plecos and especially Hypancistrus succumb easily to sudden spikes in nitrites and nitrates...so even a well cycled tank with a sudden large addition of 9 pieces might be too much to bear..which results in what is commonly known as sudden deaths with no outward signs of disease.
Above are observations for your reference...![]()

thanks bro crankcam... sorry to ask again, how large are the L333?
thanks,
johannes
