Haha, I tell you this rocks are a pain in the axx. Must use a steel stick (those for picking crab meat, buy from NTUC), tooth brush, and lots of hard work and water to clean. Before that, soak in boiling water overnight will lossen the soil stuck inside. Even so, do not expect to be 100% clean, You will find that after putting into your tank, some more left inside the deep holes.

I dun dare to use bleach knowing that its going to put into my tank. Try boiling water for 3 times. Wash after each time. should be 90% clean after that.

this rock has nice shape but cleaning it is really dam hard. you must use a stick of something like what o2bubble said to dig out the soil. but sometimes you think already end, as in you cannot push any further into the holes. however if you try pushing further, the hole will become a tunnel. get what i mean? basically i think try to clean until when you soak into normal water, the water still remains clear.

ohko rocks. real pain siah, i got my from OTF and had them clean like crazy. Went thru the same process of soaking first i bleach to remove the algae and colors; original color will surface, soak then in white vinegar for a week, then soak again in PRIME water for a couple of weeks. Leave to dry full for 1 week, then soak again.

The drying and soaking process have to be repeated, so it is able to expel unwanted "chemicals" should the rocks be use.

try not to soak in bleach. Can be done but need to neutralise it by soaking in soft acid e.g. vinegar. I used anti-chlorine and it takes some time to remove the bleach. After which the bleach smell still remained on my DW. Best is try to remove as much mud from the holes but dun try to probe too in. Then scrub lightly to remove those that coats on the surface of the rock.

To test it, submerge it in water and see if the water clears up fast. it is almost impossible to remove all the dirt 100%.

I soak equipments will bleach then leave it in a pail diluated with anti chlorine solution overnight. My ADA diffusers always look brand new after the dip. But if the material is porous, then I wouldn't recommend using bleach.

Lol it's exciting too. wondering if anything will happen. i soaked a piece of wood with bleach and luckily it works fine. Was rather worried when i saw some shrimps picking the wood. Turns out no casualty.

lightly scrub them and remove as many visible sediments as you can. If you clean them too hard, the rock might starts to fall apart into smaller pieces.
