Sad but true, the norm for a solid pair carries a heavier price tag on it's shoulders. Even if it's the common A.caca. Being a fan of A.caca i will really like to have this pair given a chance. Since A.caca are easy to breed by nature. It will be a good buy. Can always be shared among a few members and split the fries later. Shouldn't be too expensive if shared among 2 or 3 potential buyers. Considering that it spawn.

    IMHO, nothing special.
Red pigmentation is due to intense 'flaring' which is also commonly found in other A. caca, A. bitaeniata, A. paucisquamis, A. gibbiceps, etc.
My only suspicion is that the collection point of Careiro for A. caca is few and far between.
By the way, A. caca from Careiro usually costs about S$200.
For S$400, I would go for A. Jurua.
    Just my 3 cents worth.

Very stunning Caca!! But why is the coloration and markings so different from its usual Cacas?

Its price tag is a little heavy for me unless shared by a few bros and split the fries later

ps. Hi Benetay, where did you find the price tag for this fish from? thanks

I would agree that the red pigmentation is not very special and certain photography techniques can highlight them better and create a misconception of the fish 'usual' coloration.

What is interesting for me is the patterns.marking on the anal and caudal fins. Not typical for Apistogramma cacatuoides, at least not the wild ones that I've previously seen. It's almost similar the those on the Apistogramma mendezi!!

I thought they looked more like those of an Ap. paucisquamis.

Nice easy to breed A.caca with the marking of paucis & mendezi lookalike. I got the price from RVA website, they have a purchase section which stated 15000 yen after tax per pc.

Hope to see such beauty in our local tanks.
    Cheers!

    This is so true.
Very often the real thing looked so different from the photos.

Remembered that there was this discussion that the red pigmentation is most intense when flaring at an opposing male and less when against a female.

Just look at Ap. elizabethae, when not flaring, they look .... but when they flare at another male or at their own reflection, they become .. All the usually dull finnages become filled with red pigmentation!
